WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopeful John McCain taunted rival Mitt Romney on immigration Monday, saying Romney should "get out his small-varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his lawn."
Romney's campaign responded that McCain "is having a very difficult time" defending his support of a sweeping immigration bill, which Romney opposes....Monday, McCain made fun of Romney's evolving positions on other issues...
"In the case of Gov. Romney, you know, maybe I should wait a couple of weeks and see if it changes, because it's changed in less than a year from his position before," McCain said. "And maybe his solution will be to get out his small-varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his lawn. I don't know."...
The jab squeezed in references to two past controversies: Romney's backtrack on an April comment that he'd "been a hunter pretty much all my life" -- he later said he had shot "varmints," such as rabbits, as a child...
But his spokesman, Kevin Madden, said that Romney "has been very clear that he opposes this immigration agreement, which clearly falls short of the American public's expectations."
"It seems that the candidate who brokered this flawed plan is having a very difficult time coming to terms with the political fallout that has ensued and cannot even muster up a substantive argument in favor of it," Madden said..."
McCain admitted after the 2000 Republican primary campaign that his temper might have hurt his chances to be president.
Republican strategist Ed Rollins said Tuesday that incidents such as these diminish McCain's appeal to voters who don't know him....
"When the pressure gets on, he tends to get his back up a little bit," Rollins said. "He's 70 years old. People don't want a cantankerous president."

McNasty strikes again.
If ever there was a person to be afraid of with his finger on the “button”, it is this nut!
McCain knows he’s done for.....look at these COMMENTS below his press release ON HIS OWN WEBSITE

Yesterday, Mark Levin cited all McLame’s flip-flops on his radio show. The man better be careful who he points fingers at.
McCain has about as much chance of getting the Republican nomination as Biden has of getting the Democrat one.
I think McCain has cooked his own presidential goose with this and the cooking thermometer has popped out. I hope someone has fun with him and baits him one of the debates and makes him scream like Howard Dean.
McCain is an embarrassment to a$$holes everywhere.

“get out his small-varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his lawn.”
This just shows how out of touch the man is with his own constituents. It is common knowledge that in both AZ and TX there have been many times when ranchers who own borderland have had to shoot illegals. There is nothing in the least witty in what he said.
McCai-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy. Anyone tied to either of these travesties has severly hindered their chances at the big seat.
That means co-sponsors too.
“I’m John McCain and I wrote down all your Free Republic names and I’m going to report them to me, then you’ll be in trouble. Snap, Crackle, Pop...get them!”
McCain has no chance and he knows it. He’s remaining in this thing for personal reasons, probably to exact a little revenge. He’s that type of arrogant nutball.
McNut needs to be in a cage.
