House Readies for Reprimand Vote on Rep. John Murtha
Tuesday , May 22, 2007
WASHINGTON House lawmakers are getting ready to vote on a reprimand of Rep. John Murtha after a Republican lawmaker introduced a resolution citing Murtha for earmark and ethics violations in the crafting of the intelligence authorization bill.
The privilege resolution introduced by Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., could come up for a vote as early as Tuesday. Rogers, 43, accuses Murtha, 74, of violating the House ethics rules passed in January that require each member who wants to slip into any bill a spending project for their district to identify himself or herself.
Rogers, a former FBI agent, claims he tried to cut $23 million in funding for the National Drug Intelligence Center because the program is redundant and wasteful. But the center is located in Murtha's Pennsylvania district, which Rogers says he didn't realize because Murtha, the seventh-ranking lawmaker in terms of seniority, slipped the funding into the intelligence authorization bill without identifying himself.
The resolution says Murtha, a former Marine, then threatened Rogers with never allowing another spending project to come up for a vote in the House. It recounted the conversation in the House chamber on May 17.
"I hope you don't have any earmarks in the defense appropriation bill because they are gone and you will not get any earmarks now and forever," the resolution claims Murtha said in so many words.
According to the resolution, Rogers then responded, "This is not the way we do things here and is that supposed to make me afraid of you?"
Murtha then "raised his voice, pointed his finger and stated, in words to the effect, 'that's the way I do it.'"
House rules prohibit lawmakers from limiting others' projects based on their voting record.

Could this be the end of Kickback Jack ?
I don’t understand.
How can Murtha be cited for an ethics violation?
Isn’t he a Democrat?
Don’t Democrats get automatic immunity for ethics violations in exchange for all the treason they engage in?
Isn’t that how it works?
I’m confused.
.
Maybe we could put a Citrus Fruit Quality Analysis Center there, too. Or perhaps a Corps of Engineers center to study beach erosion.
I’m waiting for video of Murtha, tears streaming down his face, telling us how evil it is to harm our soldiers by withholding pork from companies owned by persons named Murtha in his congressional district.
Sam,
Do not be confused. The measure is doomed to fail. You’ve got things slightly backwards. Conservatives are completely allowed to point out the unethical things that demonrats do - that’s part of the irony. ‘Cause it gets pointed out, just never really acted upon.
I know. I was feigning confusion to make a point. That Rats get away with murder, literally. Most of the time.
This appears to be shaping up to be an anomaly of some kind.
Does anyone think that a single dimocrat will vote to reprimand one of their own???
Culture of corruption ping
It’s funny how hard this is when it’s a democrat. Remember how quickly the democrats leaped up, and republicans aquiesed, when Schmidt said “losers surrender, marines never do”?
Didn't Barney Frank get a reprimand, too? Not exactly the end of him.
Mike Rogers is my congressman, and he makes up for my having Stabenow and Levin as Senators.
Could this be the end of Kickback Jack ?
We can only pray!!!! I want to see the end of Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, Biden, Schumer and Reid, among others! Traitors/leftists - all!
I was inspired by Murtha while hearing a song on an Andy Griffin rerun the other day:
I’ll get a rope
and you get a Pole
And Murtha’ll swing at the fishin hole
Oh yeah baby
I know it’s silly, but it is funny when I play and sing it on my guitar.
It’s too bad the the Repub-I Can’t’s just don’t unite and threaten to walk out of chambers if the measure is not persued. Pelosi would be crippled forever as a leader!
