It's better news than the article indicates.

I have no idea how much of Gannett's revenue stream is sterling based, but the pound has indeed gained against the dollar significantly over the past year. As a result, they gain dollar sales equal in amount to the pound's appreciation. Take this effect out and Gannett's results would be even worse.

Last election cycle, The Journal News (we call it the urinal snooze) was so unabashedly pro-democrat, anti-republican and liberally biased that we canceled our subscription.

Add the fact that what passes for reporting is a regurgitation of wire stories and press releases and I suspect that they are fudging their audit numbers to keep the real picture from their advertisers.
