I also don’t like the 1965 ‘reform’ act.
But
to be practical, yes, the Mexicans ARE assimilating, and the pattern is just like others before them. THEY continue to speak Spanish; but their KIDS are learning English. Surveys show the kids prefer English-language stations (radio) to Spanish; and the kids act as interpreters for their parents (as happened with previous immigrant groups). Trade and technical schools are packed with hispanics who don’t want to flip burgers all their lives.
There will continue to be “little Mexico’s”, just as there have been “little Italys” and other ethnic neighborhoods before; but overall, yes, the NEXT GENERATION will be English-speaking and assimilated.
As for the Koreans, many are Christian, and have expressed the desire to help bring America back to its Christian roots. (They are about as un-PC as they come.) Vietnamese stoutly defend the freedoms fought for in the Vietnam war and have opposed having Jane Fonda on campuses.
Whether we should just grant everyone in the world the right to live in the USA is another question...
The "Little Mexico" of today is a permanent fixture of mostly illegal Mexican immigrants not wanting to assimilate, sending money back to Mexico, crossing our unsecured border at will.
Having Christian roots does not immune one of Liberalism and government dependence.
Bunk. And not if Mexico can help it, and you can bet they will do their damndest to make sure it doesn't go down that way.
And if Mexicans in our schools ARE learning English, it's only because us hardliners worked furiously to make that true (think California initiative process).
It sure as hell won't be true because the "don't worry, be happy" crowd did anything.
I think your post shows which group you're in.
You and I think the same way.
Where do you live?
