Sessions' speech started a little while ago - so I don't know how much time is left - but it's quite good. I'll watch for the repeat.

I thought an earlier thread said he was for the bill. Confusing.

Maybe he was for the bill before he was against it. There’s precedence, ya know.

Nope. Sessions might be for an “amended bill” - correcting all the problems he’s citing - but the way it works in the Senate is that the Amendment is actually an entirely new bill. Amending a prior bill is a procedural device to bring the new bill to the floor.

You beat me to it.. I recall some comments about the bill not even being written yet and he would be for it only if it met XX standards.. not flip flopping, the bill didn’t meet his standards..

I have a feeling they’re going to get so much bad press over this that it’s going to end up in file 13.

Sessions is smokin’ hot! You can watch it on

And he hasn’t finished reading the thing....

Sessions is posturing.
THe GOP is very much
Maquis après la guerre
The time for raising hell was last month. These guys just sat back and let this happen, and NOW they're patriots? The Republican Party was born to abolish slavery. Now it's hanging around to abolish the border.
And they have us cornered in a spot where a conservative vote gets you a socialist president and left-wing reps.

Judging by the obvious knowledge Sessions has about this bill (which seems to be more than the negotiaters), wonder why he wasn’t part of the compromise team?.........

Are you listening to him? I don’t see how you got there. Was Sessions invited to the secret meetings with McCain? Did he get to look at it before 2AM Saturday? If he had opposed it before he read the bill, they could slam him for criticizing it before he read it.

“These guys just sat back and let this happen...”
Nothing has actually happened. McCain, Kennedy, a few other Senators, and of course the White House cooked up this bill without wider consultation, and then attempted to present it as a fait accompli, but the bill isn’t getting much wider support.
The bill hasn’t got cloture yet, let alone won the approval of the House and Senate, and prospects don’t look good. And one of the reasons for this happy circumstance is the work of Senator Sessions.

I don’t know about Sessions’ posturing. He almost single-handedly stopped it last year, he has been screaming bloody murder about it since January, and used up some of his political capital to do so. Why would one of the few honest brokers suddenly be “posturing” about it now?
