I'm trying to find out just why we need new laws when we aren't enforcing the old ones.

And no matter what the provisions are in any legislation passed that make the bill NOT amnesty...for those that remember the 1986 legislation...it will be amnesty.

I think that this is something that no one is talking about. One of the reasons people my age and older (I'm 52) are so dead set against this "amnesty" bill, is because we WERE around for the last one. And we learned that once amnesty is granted, the border control portion of the legislation disappears. Once these people are granted their "Z" visas, there will be no reason to enforce the border.

The other problem is this, how is the already overburdened and (to borrow a Steyn term) sclerotic agency that is now dealing with "legal" immigration, going to be able to handle the huge dump of "illegal" applicants for "Z" visas? Is there a funding mechanism within this bill? I doubt it, but if I'm wrong, let me know.
