In our town, about 6 monthes ago someone started a rumor that the INS was in town making raids. They said they were out at WalMart. For 2 days after, it was a breeze shopping at WalMart.

They live in the cheap hastily constructed apartment buildings here. Anyway the rumor spread through the hispanic community and evidently caused quite a stir. A local woman wrote a letter to the editor and it was just sickening. She said the "poor people" were running out of their apartments in the middle of the night. Poor mothers holding their babies, running and crying. Well, when it turned out to be a rumor, she was so mad. She said, "these poor people went through hell, all because of a stupid rumor".

No, lady. Because they were breaking the law!! If they had been here legally, there would have been no need to run out in the middle of the night.
