“Isn’t there a provision that punishes employers who hire illegals? If they can’t work, they may take this law seriously.”

Are you even aware of the fact that there is already laws saying that illegals cannot work in this country and that employers who hire illegals can be fined? Haven’t you read the stories where Walmart and chicken processors have been fined for hiring illegals?

Have you seen how effective that law has been in keeping illegals from working in this country? The current law punishing employers who hire illegals is totally ineffective as anyone with even half a brain and the slightest knowledge of current events is well aware of, so there is absolutely no reason to think that any future law would be any more effective in keeping the illegals from working than the current law has been.

Get real, man!

Wake up and smell the coffee!

You are the most gullible person on the planet. You cannot see the different between window dressing and reality. Are you sure you know the difference between your elbow and other aspects of your anatomy?

This is just cynicism. “ so there is absolutely no reason to think that any future law would be any more effective in keeping the illegals from working than the current law has been.” If you believe that workplace enforcement is impossible, even when significantly strengthened, then what do you propose?

Well put, if a bit blunt, but we do need to be blunt - the problem is that while some us see it for what it is, the mass majority of our fellow citizens are sitting in comas watching American Idol while their country is ripped away from them - they will only come stumbling into the daylight wondering what happened when tragedy strikes, like 9-11.

Have you noticed that the raids and fines are few and far between and result in only a few employers being prosecuted, small fines levied and only a handful deported. Those actions are for the 6 o'clock news to calm the public and lull them into believing that the government is actually enforcing immigration laws.

Wake up, clear the cobwebs out of your head, take off the rose colored glasses and see the real world and how the federal government serves its real masters, the corporations.

...see the different between window dressing and reality

The fact that the border security measures, such as the Fence, already mandated by law, will be cut back by two-thirds, should say it all about the "seriousness" of the Senate bill and the President on this issue.

They are not now, and likely never were serious about doing anything but pushing through their continued Open Border.

Fake measures to secure the Border will always be held hostage to some other issues and concerns, such as cheap hotel maids and landscapers, and taco shop employees.

If they were sincere about enforcing the more-than-sufficient existing laws...they wouldn't be

(1) Prohibiting Enforcement right now. They appear to fail the sincerity test from the get-go.

(2) Using Rhetorical Subterfuge: lying about needing a "comprehensive" bill...one that addresses every thing except the border issues....and the lack of political will to enforce. Their bill reverses and undermines legislative progress already accomplished in last year's session.

The much-derided Fence that Duncan Hunter architected is apparently sufficiently effective in their minds ...that they have to make sure it never gets built.
