If the Comments posted after the article on the Daily Mail's page are any indication, you are certainly correct in that the consensus is one of amazement at the ludicrous and frightening overreaction.

And don't forget the bombings, with lots of local Muzzies planning more. But the police obviously have other things to do than going after Mad Muzzie Bombers.

I've spent a lot of time with UK police officers, or constables as they are known there.

Like American cops, they are a collection of saints and sinners. And like all humans they get very demoralized when told to say one thing and do another. Political correctness is rampant, even a way of life in the UK.

So most of them have found a middle ground, that being going out and finding some working slob who has a carpet cutter or some sharp pointy thing and arrest them.

They then get to spend the rest of the day in the station doing paperwork and avoid getting out in the rain.

Of course it gives them a chance to get a cup of tea and watch soccer on the telly. Overall, it's a miserable job, but pays relatively well, so .....
