Senator Shelbys statement:
Although a bill has not yet been released, I have serious concerns about early reports of the legislation, including the status of illegal immigrants already in this country. Make no mistake about it -- I will continue to oppose any proposal that rewards those who have broken the law to enter this country.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following comments today regarding comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the Senate:
"I will not vote for, and will actively oppose, immigration legislation that does not meet the expectations of the American people on important issues such as border security, citizenship, and a transition to a merit-based 'points' system.
"I am deeply concerned with the compromise announced yesterday. Both the process by which the bill will be considered in the Senate and the content of the proposal are troubling. Supporting an agreement on such a complex and important issue cannot be justified when legislation has not yet been written. I will be carefully reading the bill, expected to be about 800 pages, to determine whether the details of the legislation have merit."
I called one of them and emailed the other. I am proud to claim them as my senators. I even called my representative. The guy who answered the phone there was a little confused and said that this was in the senate. I just told him I was letting him know ahead of time that this should not be supported.
He was as equally impressive when he was the attorney general for the state of Alabama.
One more thing...please...getting calls for FAXing info and have tried to construct a list of Democrat Senators who are NOT supporting this bill...have Dorgan, Nelson, Nelson and Menendez so far...CAN anybody help with other possibilities? Thanking them for their support. In addition, giving out Rep supporting the bill...should Graham be on that list? We are no longer the Silent Majority!
