In a desperate attempt to make Rudy Giuliani out to be the hero of Tuesday nights debate, Fox News is continuing to attack Texas Congressman Ron Paul for something he did not say. In the latest installment of this campaign, John Gibson of Fox News says that Paul suggested that the U.S. actually had a hand in the [9/11] terrorist attacks. No, what he said was that U.S. foreign policy was a reason why Osama bin Laden attacked America. This is a fact.
Gibsons comment shows how Fox News has been eager to slant the news in favor of Giuliani, who claimed in his famous response to Paul that the congressman had said that the U.S. invited the 9/11 attacks. That was false, too.
Some would say that Ron Pauls foreign policy views, in this day and age, are somewhat naïve. But Giulianis assault, assisted by Fox News, which co-sponsored the debate, goes so far over the line that an honest media watchdog has to say something. Gibson, trying to make Pauls comments about 9/11 into The Big Outrage, claimed that he was a member of the 9/11 truth movement, the group that claims the terrorist attacks were orchestrated by some kind of secret cabal of U.S. officials. He compared Paul to Rosie ODonnell, who suggested 9/11 was an inside job.

Yes, and so would you if you read what he writes. He calls us “Crusaders”, many Mullahs refer to the Iraqi invasion as the 14th Crusade.
And he did say that. He said that “our policies” (which were not the U.S. policies, but enforcement of the agreement between Saddam Hussein and the U.N. after the first Gulf War) was the reason that Osama bin Laden wanted to attack us.
But they weren’t “the” reason, they were “a” reason. And when you look at all of the reasons that bin Laden has stated, you realize they aren’t “reasons” at all but “excuses”.
So when I say that Ron Paul blamed the rape victim for dressing “slutty”, that is exactly what I mean.
Just as a rapists can say that her short skirt “caused” him to rape her, so bin Laden can say that our Iraq policy “caused” him to attack us.
It bull and you should know that.
I’m certainly no neocon, although I do support the GWOT. And I am a big fan of smaller government.
Ron Paul may be a Goldwater conservative, but he is dead wrong on Iraq, ridicule not withstanding.
It is by no means the only reason as even a cursory visit to the MEMRI website would show you.
I suggest you take a visit.
I am sorry but it is WAY past time the Ron Paulites quit lying about their boy. Instead of simply screaming their rabid ignorance, why don’t the Paulies try actually FINALLY reading Bin Laden’s Fatwa? Not just a line or two, actually READ the whole thing this time.
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/terrorism/international/fatwa_1996.html
Ron Paul made a totally ass of himself and showed himself COMPLETELY unfit for Congress, much less the Presidency. IF he had been a Liberal the VERY people who are so feverishly trying to make excuses for Paul’s senial world view, would be screaming “taitor”.
Make peace with the facts. Ron Paul is a lunatic who has NO business running for President.
In a world with suit case nukes and plague in a bottle we simply cannot afford such and utterly ignorant, stupid world view as Neo Isolationism to be taken seriously. EVEN if the American voters are not listening, our enemies are listening. Ron Paul is actively giving aid and comfort to our enemies propaganda efforts.
It really the shits when the truth comes out about your personal god, isn’t it.
Do you actually expect the right to tell you all the truth? Grow up and realize that they only tell the shiny side of the story to guys like you.
He’s a Tool
I have read his fatwa. What is your point?
Your entire post was excellent. Ron Paul says we should talk to the terrorists and ask them why they are attacking us. I guess he didn't read Osama Bin Laden's November 24, 2002 statement to the American people.
This, in Bin Laden's own words, is the primary demand he has of the American people:
"What are we calling you to, and what do we want from you?
(1) The first thing that we are calling you to is Islam.
(a) The religion of the Unification of God; of freedom from associating partners with Him, and rejection of this; of complete love of Him, the Exalted; of complete submission to His Laws; and of the discarding of all the opinions, orders, theories and religions which contradict with the religion He sent down to His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Islam is the religion of all the prophets, and makes no distinction between them - peace be upon them all.
It is to this religion that we call you; the seal of all the previous religions. It is the religion of Unification of God, sincerity, the best of manners, righteousness, mercy, honour, purity, and piety. It is the religion of showing kindness to others, establishing justice between them, granting them their rights, and defending the oppressed and the persecuted. It is the religion of enjoining the good and forbidding the evil with the hand, tongue and heart. It is the religion of Jihad in the way of Allah so that Allah's Word and religion reign Supreme. And it is the religion of unity and agreement on the obedience to Allah, and total equality between all people, without regarding their colour, sex, or language."
And:
"You are the nation who, rather than ruling by the Shariah of Allah in its Constitution and Laws, choose to invent your own laws as you will and desire. You separate religion from your policies, contradicting the pure nature which affirms Absolute Authority to the Lord and your Creator. You flee from the embarrassing question posed to you: How is it possible for Allah the Almighty to create His creation, grant them power over all the creatures and land, grant them all the amenities of life, and then deny them that which they are most in need of: knowledge of the laws which govern their lives?"
During the debate, Ron Paul demonstrated his complete denial that we are, in fact, engaged in a religious war not of our choosing. We can either stand and fight, or we can all convert to Islam and impose Shariah Law. Any presidential candidate who doesn't understand these basic facts is a danger to the security of our country.
This is a fact.
Indeed.
So? Japan attacked us because of our foreign policy. Germany attacked France because of France's, Britian's, and US foreign policy. That doesn't make them right to attack, it doesn't even mean the forign policy was wrong, although it was towards Germany. Pacifist foreign policy is always wrong.
Maybe, or maybe the ones who are "dead wrong" are the people who decided to invade in the first place. Iraq, it is now clear, posed no threat to the U.S. Yes, it was ruled by a dastardly dictator, but so are at least 20 other third world countries. And Saddam's army, like those of other third-world outposts, was straight out of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. Now, with his despotic grip on his country removed, Iraq has descended into civil war and chaos, and the country to which Iraq had served as a check - Iran - is feeling its oats. At least that's one respectable interpretation of the situation. Ron Paul, who I think shares this view, isn't "dead wrong" for holding this quite reasonable perspective.
That's exactly what he said. Here ya go, from the transcripts:
REP. PAUL: I'm suggesting that we listen to the people who attacked us and the reason they did it
I'm sorry, but that's sooo much hyperbole. Muslims constitute less than 4 percent of the US population, and radical shariah-types, far fewer. How are they going to enforce Shariah law on 250 million people? What a comic book perspective. Unfortunately, it's a perspective that a lot of Bushbots unthinkingly share.
Well, if I want to know why someone did something, I ask the perp first.
He’s in the best position to know, after all.
Yes. He is not saying to go have a chat with them, just listen to what they have told us. He even listed some of the reasons.
I already posted a transcript in Bin Laden’s own words what he demands of the American people. Convert to Islam and impose Shariah Law. I guess Ron Paul is free to ignore it or not. I’m not suicidal, and I choose not.
I guess we can all rest safely knowing that Bin Laden’s ultimate demands and goals aren’t realistic. So, no matter how hard he tries, and how many people he kills in the name of his Crusade, it will never be achieved. Gee, we should’ve just known Hitler’s objectives were hyperbole and ignored him.
What I’m understanding from the statements of many Ron Paul’s supporters on this thread is that they, like their candidate, are living in a dreamworld. I withdraw from the conversation and leave you to your fantasy.
That and the simple answer is Paul is against (correctly) the establishment, media and otherwise.
You haven’t answered how a Muslim population of a couple of million (in the US) will enforce “Sharia law” on 250 - plus millions. I never encounter any Muslims in my life in a fairly large American city. How many do you run into every day? Apparently quite a few, since you’re afraid that they’re numerous enough and powerful enough to force you, you family and everybody on your block and in your town to obey Sharia law. Give me a break.
