In a desperate attempt to make Rudy Giuliani out to be the hero of Tuesday nights debate, Fox News is continuing to attack Texas Congressman Ron Paul for something he did not say. In the latest installment of this campaign, John Gibson of Fox News says that Paul suggested that the U.S. actually had a hand in the [9/11] terrorist attacks. No, what he said was that U.S. foreign policy was a reason why Osama bin Laden attacked America. This is a fact.
Gibsons comment shows how Fox News has been eager to slant the news in favor of Giuliani, who claimed in his famous response to Paul that the congressman had said that the U.S. invited the 9/11 attacks. That was false, too.
Some would say that Ron Pauls foreign policy views, in this day and age, are somewhat naïve. But Giulianis assault, assisted by Fox News, which co-sponsored the debate, goes so far over the line that an honest media watchdog has to say something. Gibson, trying to make Pauls comments about 9/11 into The Big Outrage, claimed that he was a member of the 9/11 truth movement, the group that claims the terrorist attacks were orchestrated by some kind of secret cabal of U.S. officials. He compared Paul to Rosie ODonnell, who suggested 9/11 was an inside job.

I think they are trying to protect Giuliani for saying something that was really, really ignorant.
The Paul junkies are getting old.
Then don’t click on the thread.
Maybe all the Ron Paul groupies can jam the Internet polls on Election Night 2008, and then they can all pretend he really got elected President.
Because that is as good as it’s gonna get for the (fart in a) Texas Whirlwind.
U.S. foreign policy was a reason why Osama bin Laden attacked America.
This is a fact.
Indeed.
typical crap. They don’t get what’s obvious to us - making excuses for the terrorists that include anything caused by the US is the same thing.
I want to remember who you people are.
So go for Obama, Guiliani, Clinton or McCain because they’re all alike.
An explanation, which Dr. Paul gave, is not a justification, which you interpret it as.
I see.
Just so you kow, “you people” who demonstrably don’t give a damn about the Constitution bear watching as well.
I don’t care if we are in this because George Bush went over and peed on the first lady of Saudi Arabia on the front porch of her house. We are in this now and had damn well better win and win now. Equivocating now is less than useless, it’s stupid.
This is a fact.
Indeed.
Katherine Hepburn showing her ankle in The African Queen was a reason Osama bin Laden attacked America.
Children flying kites was a reason Osama bin Laden attacked America.
Richard de Couer Leon forcing Saladin into a peace treaty and allowing Christian pilgrims the right to travel unimpeded was a reason Osama bin Laden attacked America.
As far as I know Ron Paul hasn't picked up any talk show support yet. He's toast in part because he is not appreciated by EITHER the MSM or the alternate media. I agree Paul did not sign up with the Bush-knew conspiracy theorists. Anyone who saw the debate knows that. What he did say though, was a variation on the Noam Chomsy "Imperialist America's overseas adventures come home to roost" theme. Most conservatives don't agree with that school of political thought, so it is no surprise that he is being savaged for his comments. Most of the people who agree with that way of thinking are on the far left (or "Moonbat Left, to use FR parlance) of the Democratic Party: Zinn, Chomsky, Sheehan, Kucinich, the late Paul Wellstone, all would basically agree with his debate comments. No mystery here. Republicans are isolationists (since Lindberg, at least).
Hunter would be OK.
Last line should read “Republicans are NOT isolationists, at least since Lindberg” .
Garde la Foi, mes amis! Nous nous sommes les sauveurs de la République! Maintenant et Toujours!
(Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!)
LonePalm, le Républicain du verre cassé (The Broken Glass Republican)
Sorry, I watched the debate. Congressman Paul’s came off as the republican version of that demented dwarf of a Dem, Denis Kucinich.
I want a conservative with a respect for the Constitution, I don’t want stuck in the 1930’s.
Isolationism and America First failed Dec 7 1941.
Yeah... can’t have anyone thinking the Constitution or History mean a damn thing. That might be principled or something and we can’t have that... (/sarc)
