If youre Fred Thompson, youve got to be encouraged about jumping into the race. In the wake of Tuesdays debate among Republican presidential candidates, it was the former Tennessee senator who topped the field in YouTube views and he wasnt even participating.
Online intelligence firm New Media Strategies measured which candidate got the biggest YouTube bump from the May 15 debate in South Carolina. It also counted the number of viewers of Thompsons video responding to Michael Moore, which was viewed online concurrently with the GOP debate.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Thompsons video, in which he suggests that Moore might look into a mental institution, drew 598,600 viewers on Vimeo, YouTube and Google Video.
That dwarfs the most views from any moment during the debate. Ron Paul and Rudy Giulianis exchange over Sept. 11 was tops from the actual event, with 16,904 views from online postings.
Mitt Romney drew 4,394 views from online postings; Paul alone got 3,273 views; John McCain, Giuliani and Romney on terrorism and torture drew 2,621 viewers. Even Mike Huckabees well-received joke about John Edwards hair only drew 365 viewers.

I really needed something to smile about today!

Meet the next Commander-in-Chief, now appearing on YouTube slapping down an overweight socialist weasel...
Me too. I already feel like I've been hit by a train.
I mirror the *Evil Chuckle*
I know, I know...
I’m sick. What an awful day. Listening to McCain and Graham on C-span I nearly, truly, threw something at the TV.
I’m laughing too hard to make a comprehensible post.
papa
The day after the debate: InTrade changes. It appears to me that McCain lost. Rudy gained some (yesterdays he was at +5, so it has settled down a bit). Fred lost a little bit of ground.

What a stupid apples-to-oranges comparison this is. Maybe they should compare the youtube hits to actual viewers of the debate broadcast, plus the radio audience.
did either of you see o’reilly last night? he had some guy on and they discussed Fred’s youtube response to Moore and were acting like Fred did it to garner attention for his presidential run. they were acting like Fred started the entire thing. that isn’t how it happened is it? Fred responded to Moore’s moronic diatribe against him.
I must have watched it 3 times.
Don't tell me being an actor is not an asset in an election.
Like many of us (my hand raised) O’Rielly will occasionally talk before he knows (or sees) what he is talking about.
Foot in mouth syndrome.
Sometimes I think he doesn’t do his homework.
O’Rielly - not me.
I like what Fred Thompson said about illegal immigration. I’ve yet to hear anything like this coming from MCain, Giuliani, Romney...

Mr. O is an idiot about some things and right on target with others. He is a horse’s ass about the oil companies and gasoline prices [my brother is a petroleum engineer], but he does great stuff on other issues. he was just talking out of his behind on the fred thing [i know you wouldn’t do that, now would you? ; )] He did pretty well on holding those accountable that were trashing Falwell when he was barely yet cold.
You scare me girl - we think a lot alike.
Is my webcam on or something?
O’Reilly? Not sure what bone he’s got to pick with Fred...but fine- let him be that way!
1- Michael Moore went to Cuba etc etc...
2- Several weeks later, Fred writes a piece about Cuban healthcare in general, and a few lines about Michael Moore’s trip.
3- Michael Moore challenges Fred to debate.
4- Fred sends Michael a video:)
Thompson used Moore as a lede in his article Paradise Island, in order to rail on socialized medicine and Hollywood's love affair with Castro. In that sense, yes, Thompson did start it.
i like what you’re wearing.... ‘; )
