It is really shocking how the majority of freepers cannot see the simple fact that it is impossible to deport 12 million immigrants. How many law enforcement people required to do so? Are we going to send 500 police to a compound housing illegal immigrants and their families kick the doors of apartment and pull out people and put them in buses? Are the police going to raid the malls and the restaurants and arrest the illegal immigrants? How many informants we need to tell us about the location of illegal immigrants? To do this America will have to become a POLICE STATE and this will never happen in America despite the delusions of many on our side. The national backlash against the conservatives and anyone who endorse such a thing will be worst than anything we can imagine.

it is impossible to deport 12 million immigrants.

It's only "impossible" in the peabrains of people like you, John McCain, Arlen Specter and Teddy Kennedy.

It is simple...Jail the employers, the leadership in our schools, medical community, etc that knowingly deals with illegals. Once the illegals are forced, they will have no choice to leave.

Your hysterical hyperbole sounds like it came straight out of the mouth of the most liberal Democrat. Uphold the rule of law. Enforce the law. The law says that the penalty for being in this country illegal begins with deportation. Removing benefits that entice illegal aliens and making it impossible for them to get a job because the laws are being vigorously enforced against their lawbreaking employers will cause them to have no other choice but to leave on their own.

When you find that you're on the side of Pelosi and Kennedy, you really need to examine where you've gone wrong.

It's only impossible to a nation that lacks the will. They would not be deported in a day, or a week, or a year. But building a fence, guarding that fence, deporting illegals as you find them and a few other measures absolutely would turn this trend around.

It's only impossible because too few politicians have the desire to make it happen, and too few voters are insisting on it.

I think it could be sold politically as "aligning our immigrant policy with that of the rest of the world". Heck, just align our immigrant policy with Mexico's! We are the only nation that allows such rampant overrun by illegals and does next to nothing to deter it. We effectively give them free health care, free education, a driver's license and a ballot as the consequence of illegally entering / remaining in our country. It's insane, and no other nation on earth acts the same way.

There are 12 to 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS not immigrants. They are already here, but we don't have to reward them by granting them legal status. First, we need to secure our borders [including visa overstays], second we need to enforce the laws on the books, and third, we need to collect data to see how many illegals are actually here. We can't make good public policy without good data.

Are we going to send 500 police to a compound housing illegal immigrants and their families kick the doors of apartment and pull out people and put them in buses? Oh, please. Stop making those of us who want the enforcement of our laws into some sort jackbooted Nazi stormtroopers. These people aren't victims, they are lawbreakers.

If Nazi Germany could round up over six million people of Jewish faith and hold them using 1930’s technology, the United States can do a heck of a lot better using 21st Century technology.....

(...and NO, I do not support what Hitler did. I’m discussing ability, not morality...)

jveritas, it’s simply not true that we’d have to have a massive round up to rid ourselves of the illegals. We should start by declaring their children are NOT citizens (no anchor babies) — I understand that is a plausible reading of the citizenship amendments — and then deny them ALL public services: no drivers licenses, no emergency room, no public schools for their children, no bilingual services (learn English or be ignored) nothing at all other than a one way ticket home. Combine with mandatory jail for employers who do not check citizenship using an approved ID system (I know, that sucks, but what else you gonna do?) if employees turn out to be illegal. Penalties for illegals who are caught: permanent expulsion (with a mark that cannot be removed so they can never reenter). Penalties for illegals who commit crimes here: expulsion after long jail sentences. With that kind of program, and perhaps a 90 day grace period for those here illegally to leave without permanent expulsion penalty - leave now and you can get in line to apply to come back, stay and get caught and you’ll never come back, large numbers would leave voluntarily. The work would dry up, the average person who hires and illegal carpenter or gardener would not risk 5 years in jail (mandatory) to save a few bucks. No work, they’d leave in droves.

You don’t need to deport all of them. All you need to do is cut off the welfare payments, free medical, food stamps, WIC, free/low-income housing, free schools, and start prosecuting their employers and they will start going back home. Simple.

What is shocking is how many people fail to realize that the majority of these people will go home if you enforce the existing laws against them being here and working (attrition). You won't have to go and "round up" all of them. If the government at all levels wanted to enforce the laws, believe me, the vast majority of them would be gone. Just like when we utter the word "amnesty", millions more of them suddenly show up. And 12 million is a vast understatement of the number of illegals that are here. If it's impossible to enforce borders, I guess we should all just get over this quaint and archaic idea of having a "country" then.

What a crock of crap. I’ve been reading this thread and it’s been REPEATEDLY stated how relatively easy it would be for these criminal illegals to self deport. This isn’t rocket science. Sheesh.

Baloney! Cut off the free medical care, schooling, and such. And, don't give them licenses. Watch them trickle back over the border when the free ride runs out. Maybe we can get a few liberals to follow.

Secure the borders FIRST and AFTER we verify the securing methods are really working and illegal crossings are under control, then and only then consider a bill on what to do with illegal immigrants already here. Please quit saying we can’t deport all of them. We know that and most are not saying that.

Without getting technical or anything I look at 12 million people getting here from Point A to their present Point B. I’d say reversing that process would actually be faster and even cheaper than the intial movement.
