Splendid summary of a sadly neglected artist.

If anyone wants to know what was really going on in England, simply read the cartoons of Hogarth, Rowlandson, Gillray, and Cruikshank.

Of course, SOME things never change (note the caption).

(That's Charles James Fox, a rather coarse character even when uncaricatured by Gillray).

City Journal is a gem. It almost balances out all the crap that emanates from other Manhattan print media.
