Lou Barletta won a third term as mayor of Hazleton by thumping all comers in an historic election Tuesday.
Barletta hammered Republican challenger Dee Deakos 1,343 votes to 80 in what appears to be the biggest landslide in city history. By percentage, Barletta got 94.4 percent of the vote, while Deakos got 5.6 percent.
The shocker was Barletta’s winning the Democratic nomination through his write-in campaign. He beat Mike Marsicano by a near 2-1 margin, 1,211 votes to 699, according to unofficial results. Again by percentage, Barletta got 63.4 percent of the vote to Marsicano’s 36.6 percent.

Rove and the RINOs say that unless we open the borders and give amnesty to the illegals the Republicans will lose the vote.

This proves the opposite. Stop the illegal invasion and both Republicans AND Democrats will support you.

Wake up you morons in Washington.

This rocks...I just got back home after a day of working on the official count at the Luzerne County courthouse.

This shows how much the people of Hazleton really do support the mayor and his policies, rather than what the ACLU would have you believe...

It isn't taking long for the ACLU to use the immigration bill mess against Hazleton.

"Attorney Vic Walczak, however, said the Hazleton ordinance, which he challenged in court, seeks to drive out people offered legal immigration status by the federal proposal.

"If the federal government is willing to have them live and work here, who is to say they can’t be here in the city," said Walczak, legal director the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania.

City’s immigration fight not over.

Still, Barletta said Illegal Immigration Relief Act did play a role in the double-victory and sent a message nationwide.

“A national audience was paying attention to this race,” Barletta said. “Combine this, with Farmer’s Branch, Texas, when an IIRA copycat was approved on referendum ... and that should send a message to Congress.”

The two city council candidates who backed Marsicano handily won the two Democrat nominations.

There, you have it. Americans are so sick of illegal immigration that they are kicking the politicians who support amnesty out of office, by a write in!

Amazing....

I live close to Hazleton and applaud Mayor Barletta.

However, we need this to happen in a major city for the nation to really take notice. It should not end with Hazleton, PA and Farmer’s Branch, TX.

I hope Hazleton has paved the way for a strong mayor to do the same elsewhere.

The SANCTUARY CITY of Los Angeles needs a REAL AMERICAN MAYOR.

The Mexican mayor we have would have to be physically dragged out of his office and his beloved photo-ops for us to get rid of him. He is shamelessly pro-Mexico and anti-American.

The citizens of this city curse the day he was elected. He is an embarassment to this state. NEVER ELECT A MEXICAN POLITICIAN!!!
