I thought this comment by Bob Krumm "Thompsons reponse to Moore will have a much greater impact on the presidential campaign than anything said at this little shindig tonight. Itll be seen by many more people too" was an exaggeration, a bit of blogospheric triumphalism. Now I'm not so sure. As of 7:45 p.m. EST, the video has 156,069 views. Obviously, plenty of those are repeat viewers. But that's a good run in less than eight hours.
MSNBCs first Democratic debate had 2.26 million viewers; their GOP debate had 1.76 million viewers. (Reasons for the lower viewers for the GOP? 1. Most of America was glued to their web-browsers for my live-blogging. 2. Pre-game hosted by Keith Olbermann, who eight nights earlier had "accused Rudolph Giuliani of using the language of Osama bin Laden with "the same chilling nonchalance of the madman." 3. It was hosted by Chris Matthews. 4. Many Americans actually have lives.)
Anyway, it will be interesting to see what gets greater buzz in the coming days. In a way, if every GOP candidate on stage tonight plays it safe, a potential candidate bit- er, slapping around Michael Moore might actually spur more discussion in GOP circles.

That could be good if he can cut to fit. A contrast to machine gun answers.
I know who the proven executive is in the bunch. And it ain’t Fred. I like the man, but his resume does not runneth over.
If he will enter, I think that’s exactly why he is sitting this round out. He would just come across poorly as 1 of 10, but would come across much better as 1 of 3 or 4.
I showed it to my husband, who's a democrat-leaning independent. I thought he would laugh, but he was too busy being amazed. He said something along the lines of "wow, finally a Republican who's not acting like he's campaigning back in the 60s or early 70s."
We were talking later about how Thompson managed this in a matter of hours, and my husband joked that Thompson is being helped by David Geffen, as Geffen's best shot at beating Hillary. :)
The Dems heads will explode if he continiues to do this!
Can’t wait for the video of that!!! Dims heads exploding, that is.
OUR MAN FRED
See post 44 — my husband (a moderate dem or a dem-leaning independent, depending on the day), was extremely impressed.
Today all the freeks were dancing on Falwells grave, but you watch.... within a week they will be muttering louder about FDT.
Pelosi et al are already on it
I agree- Fred knows his strengths and weaknesses- he could have hopped in before now...but he’s biding his time- much to the frustration of people like me!
Michael Moore inadvertently gave Fred’s campaign a GREAT start today:)
He should have played the Law and Order theme song when he was turning the chair around, and then again at the end when he turns it back around, that would have been classic.
Fred just declared to the GOP that he understands how to communicate to the electorate, AND how to treat liberal morons in the manner they need to be handled in 38 seconds of video.
And, we cigar smokers have a better than average chance of putting one of ours in the White House.
Once he’s elected, you’ll need at least a corona in your teeth just to buy bread.
We’ll rule the world. . . . .
I need a moment.
OMG!! WHAT A MAN!! FRED for Prezzzzzzzzzzz!!
And I know how to spot a person who’s candidate blew the debate tonight big time. Way to go crapping on other candidates because yours didn’t deliver. I thought you were above that, but you’re as bad as the Rudy crowd was.
I don't think there's any way the network could allow such a use of its copyrighted music without all broadcasts of that music (for the show or promos) requiring "equal time".
Are you verklempt??
They played it at the beginning of his speech at the Lincoln Club meeting.
Why would Fred be interested in the VP spot? If his priority is his family, as it seems to be, running for President is reasonable if that's what's required to protect the whole country--including his family--from liberals. But how would running for VP fit in with that?
