Is Bush Mentally Ill? Newsweek Says Yes to 'Pathological Certainty' Theory
NewsBusters ^ | Tim Graham

Is President Bush mentally ill? Sharon Begley is a senior editor for science at Newsweek, which apparently entitled her to conduct a tired psychoanalysis of President Bush and his state of denial about the war in Iraq, suggested earlier in his life by his comforting his mother as his sister Robin died of leukemia at age three, and his alcohol abuse as an adult. < snip >

In an article titled "The Truths We Want to Deny," Begley, a longtime Newsweek writer overcame the awkwardness of diagnosing mental illness from a distance:

Denying the evidence of your eyes is the most extreme form of the coping mechanism called denial. But denial comes in milder forms as well. Parents refuse to believe their child is on drugs; that baggie under his bed contained oregano. A husband maintains his wife cannot be cheating; those late nights she spends with a friend are purely platonic. A wife denies that her husband is gay; he's just been too tired for sex with her these last few years.

And a president who insists that a war will succeed despite setback after setback? It's risky to put a politician on the couch, but that has not kept President Bush's critics from charging that he is "in a state of denial" about the situation in Iraq, as Sen. Harry Reid said last month. USA Today editorialized that Bush is "in denial about the insurgency that has plunged [Iraq] into civil war."

This could all be dismissed as psychobabble, except for one thing. Psychology researchers, including some who advise politicians, have reached the same conclusion."I do think there is denial on Bush's part in his running of the war," says Kerry Sulkowicz, clinical professor of psychiatry at New York University Medical Center.

Yes, I concede it is a waste of my time to converse with you because your post reeks of misinformation of the type only seen by those who also blame freemasons and Israel for all their problems.

Watch out, there’s a black helicopter!

My post does? Specifically what? Frankly, this is the sort of response one would expect form a slimey liberal.

“Watch out, there’s a black helicopter!”

That too.

Yeah, I’m the new 11,000 post, been here for years, liberal.

Go back to the DU, Mr. March 27, 2007.

Your pretend-to-be-a-knuckle-dragging conservative idiot act is transparent.

“Yeah, I’m the new 11,000 post, been here for years, liberal.”

I’ve seen quite a few people with old dates outed as liberals here. Mostly Rudy supporters. Are you?

“Go back to the DU, Mr. March 27, 2007.”

Why don’t you, Mr. Sell-Out-America?

“Your pretend-to-be-a-knuckle-dragging conservative idiot act is transparent.”

So, you think conservatives are idiots. Thought so.

Wow, you’re as silly and un-observant as I feared. Maybe start with reading my tagline, then other posts.

Please, go away.

Maybe spend some time reading an intro-to-macro-economics textbook.

This is off subject - and I'm risking offending some FReepers so, I'm going to apologize up front - but I've met two men with the first name "Kerry" in my lifetime, and they were, each one, two of the most difficult, backstabbing, incomprehensibly stupid, a$$holes I've ever met.

I'm not talking the normal kind of jerks we all meet and deal with on a day to basis...the kind of jerks even some others consider us, ourselves, to be.   These two were unique.  I think they considered being despicable human beings an art form of some kind...and they were Classical Masters at it.

Pure coincidence, I know, but I'll never trust anyone named "Kerry".

I call ‘em as I see ‘em.

“Please, go away.”

Why don’t you? West Texans always were a bit foolish. Must’ve been the cold air that far north.

“Maybe spend some time reading an intro-to-macro-economics textbook.”

Why don’t you? One-sided trade deals aren’t “free trade”. Just look at our current situation with China. That’s what Reagan - no “protectionist” - stated in the speech I quoted that you ignored. Frankly, a little populism could do the Republicans some good.
