New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is prepared to spend an unprecedented $1 billion of his own $5.8 billion personal fortune for a third-party presidential campaign, Ralph Z. Hallow will report Tuesday in The Washington Times. "He has set aside $1 billion to go for it," a long-time business adviser to Mr. Bloomberg tells The Times.
"The thinking about where it will come from and do we have it is over, and the answer is yes, we can do it." The $1 billion would represent about one-fifth of Mr. Bloomberg's personal fortune. "Mike has been meeting with Ross Perot's most senior people about how they did an independent run in 1992," the Bloomberg business adviser said.
Republicans tell The Times that they are taking the Bloomberg threat seriously, while the mayor's associates say they are fielding calls from staffers for Republican Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, which the Bloomberg adviser compared to "a biplane on fire and spiraling down."

I would be less skeptical of that man than of the couple that didn't even own a home but left the white house as multi millionaires ;-)
I like your take that he is rich and bored. After banning smoking and trans-fats what else does this little elf have to do? Clean up the subways & get rid of the homeless?
But remember, he was never supposed to win the mayoralty in 2001. It was to go to Mark Green. Then Rudy endorsed Bloomberg, and on the heels of that came 9/11. Everyone went with Rudy’s choice leaving Green in the dust. I’m sure that “lucky” break has stayed in Bloomy’s tiny mind.
Chuck (that should be a verb) Hagel will be Bloomin Idiot's running mate.
The only poll I've seen with Bloomy added as a third party candidate hurt the GOP ticket more. It sounds counter-intuitive and it could just be wrong but it's a concern.
“Hell never be President.”
But he can assure a Dem president.
Say no to glabalism!
QUESTION TO ALL:
The bottom line is who would lose more votes to Bloomberg;
Fred Thompson or Hitlery?
Rudy will be a distant memory a year from now. IMO
They turned to Giuliani all those years ago more out of sheer desperation than anything. You had to be there to see just what a God-awful state the city was in after the David Dinkins period of neglect.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
“He’s a man of the people. Which people I’m not sure, but he’s their man.”
Soilent green is people! It’s PEOPLE I tell you!
Since Bloomberg isn’t going to pull any Republican votes, just commies from New York and the East Coast, I say “Run Bloomie Run!”
“who would lose more votes to Bloomberg”
That will depend on what tack he takes as a candidate.
If indeed his missiin is to assure a left victory he will pick topics that will split the conservative people, and the media will repeet these points endlessly. Many will vote for him rather than one of the compasionate conservatives we have running now.
If his mission is to assure a republican victory then he’ll play as a liberal with more liberal ideas than the closet socialists now running who dare not open their minds for revue.
If he wants to win himself, I have no clue how that would go.
But if he’s out to zap the RNC you can bet he’ll get maximum assistance from every outlet of the press.
What better way to insure a HRC presidency.
Bloomberg worked at Goldman sachs before, built a huge business in a short period and in a very niche market which he identified. He is brilliant businessman with a ego the size of texas, but even he should know the chances of him appealing outside Newyork city are miniscule.
It is mostly a ego trip, his intentions for running for the presidency by spending such a huge amount of money in a crowded market.
I have nothing against Hunter where do you get that Idea?
I don’t like two face such as pissant knocking Romney while using sex to sell Hunter!

Ah. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I think there are a lot of Democrats who are truly alarmed at the hard left the party has taken, but who tend to be more liberal in their views toward abortion, stem cell, etc. I think Hillary is scary to a lot of Democrats and Obama will be scarier. Just intuition, but I think in the long run Bloomberg will take Democrats UNLESS HE DRESSES HIMSELF UP IN THE “I’M SO RIGHT-WING” COSTUME PEROT ASSUMED.
That’s where I’m worried.
What was he doing before he became mayor that he thinks he can become president? Counting his money?:
Bloomberg: “...999,999,997.00,...999,999,998.00,...999,999,999.00,..1,000,000,000.00! Wow! I could be president,...or something..”
