I don’t know. I think that substitutes should be watched pretty closely. They are unfamiliar with the class and with the routine. If this teacher was able to show a 2-3 hour video to her class, she probably wasn’t being adequately supervised. As a permanent teacher, I would be questioned if my class was watching a video for that length of time.

Of course, she might have been a long term sub, which is different. Hopefully, there is no way this woman will ever be allowed inside a school again.

I'm confused too how she managed to show a 134 minute movie without someone noticing that the kids in the class weren't leaving to go to another class. That's all or part of 3 class periods. I agree that the teacher wasn't being supervised properly and it does sound as if she was a long-term sub, which would have meant she was doing her own lesson plans. Which brings up another issue - lesson plans - they should have been submitted to some authority showing what was going on. I wonder if she listed the movie in her plans and that is how the administration is roped in.

Nonetheless, the damage is done and now the school district (as in taxpayers) will pay for any judgements meted out by the court. Very sad all around and pretty daggone stupid too.
