Nudists seek to attract younger members

WOODSTOCK, Conn. - Here's the naked truth about nude recreation: The people who practice it aren't getting any younger. To draw 20- and 30-somethings, nudist groups and camps are trying everything from deep discounts to a young ambassador program that encourages college and graduate students to talk to their peers about having fun in the buff.

"We don't want the place to turn into a gated assisted living facility," said Gordon Adams, membership director at Solair Recreation League, a nudist camp in northeast Connecticut that recently invited students from dozens of New England schools to a college day in hopes of piquing their interest.

The median age is 55 at Solair, where a yearly membership is $500 for people older than 40, $300 for people younger than 40 and $150 for college students.

The Kissimee, Fla.-based American Association for Nude Recreation, which represents about 270 clubs and resorts in North America, estimates that more than 90 percent of its 50,000 members are older than 35.

"If a young person is enlightened enough to go to a beach or resort, they'll find that they're outnumbered by people who are not like them," said Sam Miller, 32, a medical student in Riverside, Calif., who is currently helping to plan a youth ambassadors workshop being held next month in Orlando, Fla. "Oftentimes they won't go back for that reason. They may go once or twice, but going back becomes a lonesome kind of endeavor."

"I hope to get the word out to younger people that hey, it is OK, and here's a safe place to be, a very accepting place," Maguire said. "Unlike any other place in life, people actually look at you when they talk to you."

Given the few nudists I’ve seen, a few push ups might help.

There are three kinds of female nudists breasts:

- Whoopers

- Droupers

- and, Blood Hound's Ears

Obviously, the more Whoopers the better, IMHO!

When the nudists saw where I'd been carrying my money clip, they suddenly didn't want payment.

I’ve noticed this undoubtedly disturbing trend myself. The folks who reside in these walled nudist communities tend to be seasoned- well beyond the terms of their attractiveness warranty. Ick.

Maybe, if they wanted to attract younger members, they could host science class field trips on the study of gravitational effects over time...

With our society's revulsion to aging it is hardly surprising. In the 60's-70's the phrase "Never trust anyone over thirty" started it all.

I regularly see people in their 60's and 70's jogging and trail biking. No one wants to age, or admit they are, including me!

However, my memory is good enough to recall what it was like to be thirty...and the LAST thing I wanted to see was myself in thirty or forty years!

Why on Earth would someone in their prime want to go to such places, and confront the fate that awaits them every minute?

Here’s the real naked truth about nude recreation: There’s entirely too much bad naked involved, young or old.

You aint kidding. I was in Barnes n Nobles ( or Borders don’t recall which ) a few years ago browsing in the Travel section on the magazine rack. I saw a magazine for Naturists (aka nudism ).

After quickly looking left and right I snagged it and started thumbing through it. Curiosity got the better of me.

Gads! It was hideous. What I saw in that magazine was so saggy baggy and worn out that it made what I used to see as a very young boy in National Geographic look darn near attractive.

As to old pervs wanting to recruit fresh meat for the club. Golly you don’t say. Outta lock them all up.
