The Psalmist is not engaging in name calling, rather He is describing the mental state of a person who would believe such a thing. Reason is against the Atheist. He cannot account for the world around him.

Hillary believes anyone who'd think that her husband wasn't the greatest president of all time and that she's not the smartest woman alive is a fool, too. She's just describing the mental state of a person who would believe such a thing.

Reason is against the Atheist. He cannot account for the world around him. Science does an excellent job of doing just that. Do we have all the answers, yet? Of course, not. Our technology is limited, but our understanding of the universe increases exponentially year after year. Your religion doesn't explain anything about the universe any better than the explanation that a bird named Nyx hatched a golden egg that started this crazy world a-spinnin' and you think that explanation is ridiculous.
