A RADICAL plan by Al-Qaeda to take over the Sunni heartland of Iraq and turn it into a militant Islamic state once American troops have withdrawn is causing alarm among US intelligence officials.
A power struggle has emerged between the self-styled Islamic State of Iraq, an organisation with ambitions to become a state which has been set up by Al-Qaeda, and more moderate Sunni groups. They are battling for the long-term control of central and western areas which they believe could break away from Kurdish and Shiite-dominated provinces once the coalition forces depart.
According to an analysis compiled by US intelligence agencies, the Islamic State has ambitions to create a terrorist enclave in the Iraqi provinces of Baghdad, Anbar, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Nineveh and parts of Babil.
Al-Qaeda are on the way to establish their first stronghold in the Middle East, warned an American official. If they succeed, it will be a catastrophe and an imminent danger to Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
The Islamic State is spearheading the insurgency against US forces and troops loyal to Nouri al-Maliki, the prime minister. In recent months it has been responsible for chlorine gas bombs and numerous suicide attacks on civilian targets.
According to American diplomats, one of the topics of the visit to Saudi Arabia yesterday by Dick Cheney, the US vice-president, was Al-Qaedas power in Iraq.
Five US soldiers were killed and three were missing after their unit was attacked in a Sunni insurgent stronghold south of Baghdad yesterday.

Gee... Ya think?
And the morons in Washington continue to play games.
Nevermind.
This is right and exactly why it won't happen. The Saudis will see to it.
No, from the real news I have seen the Sunni’s are having a say in the matter, regardless what the lying media has to say. They may take over the cemeteries, but that is about it.
I would love to see them all gather in a geographical area where ever it may be so we can stop worrying about civilian casualties and wipe out thousands at a time rather than 5 or 10!!1
Actually that would be kind of handy -- once the enemy all gather in one place we know where to aim the artillery.
We had that chance once before in Fallujah.
Whether or not we remain at war with them, they will remain at war with us. It’s better to fight them over there in their cities, than over here in ours.
I agree

Maybe we could consider including those cities in Iran since they’re the fuel keeping this fire in Iraq going !!!
The brilliant Nancy Pelosi will have the answer. After all, Pelosi thinks she has the answer for everything.
Note to Dems: Whoops! Can’t leave now.
No one who has any common sense will be surprised.
BTTT
She will send them light bulbs and single squares of TP, advising them that terrorism is out and GW is in, instead.

This should be encouraged and nurtured and allowed to develop and grow and become entrenched.
Then all the Enemy forces will be in one place at one time. A carpet-bombing with conventional weapons should be able to clean most of them up. Ground forces to mop up what remains.
