Romney Addresses Mass Citizens For Life (Great Intro by Chairman)
Romney for President 2008 ^ | 5/11/07

Posted on 05/12/2007 1:17:12 PM PDT by Reaganesque

Kevin Jourdain, Chairman Of The Pioneer Valley Chapter Of Massachusetts Citizens For Life, introduced Mitt Romney. Here is what he said:

"Congressman Henry Hyde, a former speaker at this dinner, contemplated the repeal of the Illinois abortion ban when he was a state legislator. He later found the truth and became the greatest voice for life in the United States Congress in the 20th century. Conversion. President George Herbert Walker Bush once supported abortion, but later became convinced that it was immoral. Conversion. Norma McCorvey, who made up a story of being raped, became Jane Roe in the heinous case of Roe v. Wade, has stated she hated pro-life people. In 1995, she opened her heart to God, and in 1998, she was received into the Catholic Church. She is now leading a ministry to tell the truth about abortion. Conversion. God, who is the source of all truth and the giver of life, will never place an obstacle ... that we cannot overcome.

"Tonight, we have a man with us who made that journey of conversion. A man who did not always know the evil of abortion, but he saw the truth. As our Governor during a debate on embryonic stem cell research, Mitt Romney took the courageous step of consulting the leaders of the medical and scientific communities to give him insight into what he knew in his heart was wrong. Mitt Romney was a great Governor, who served with honor and distinction. But most importantly, he was a pro-life Governor. He vetoed a number of pro-abortion pieces of legislation and made many pro-life appointments. He was always there for us. He's a busy man these days and we are extra fortunate that he and his wife Ann could be with us. Governor, you have been an inspirational leader in many ways. And if I may say so, Mitt, you're looking very presidential. Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming our friend, Governor Mitt Romney, to the podium as our 2007 Mullins Award Winner for Outstanding Political Leadership."

Warm comments indeed. Here is an excerpt from Mitt's speech:

"It's a honor to be with you and be with people who exemplify the pro-life values throughout their lives.

"I believe it's an honor to receive this award, as you can imagine.

"I recognize that it is awarded for where I am on the issue of life, not for where I've been.

"And I respect the fact that you arrived at this place of principle a long, long time ago.

"And I appreciate the fact that you're inclined to honor someone who arrived here only a few years ago.

"I'm evidence that your work, that your relentless campaign to promote the sanctity of human life, bears fruit.

Do you know what the understanding of the Church on when life began for years?

We are talking about when life initially begins at what stage does the spirit enter the body?

Some folks think at conception others think some where along development process, for years no one knew for sure.

Abortion is always something the Church council against but at which point the spirit enter in the body was always vague unknown!

That is why so many in the political field were pro-choice because personally one could have that is their conviction that abortion was wrong, but could they impose their conviction on another when the life part was so vague not knowing when the spirit entered?

What Romney witness at the Embyro Stem Cell research labs it all became so clear to him that there is no longer any room to equivocal of what was taking place their.

People try to have children it does not take the tissue discards that is nature and it is the same with in vitro some take or the tissue discards.

But beyond that what is taking place in those embyoic stem cell labs means they have to create life to do what they do for research and that is where the line is drawn.

There is also Stem cell research that is NOT embyonic but from the polcenta or other existing living tissue.

It doesn't make one especially insightful to charge everyone even remotely suspected of "heresy" on a given topic with being a liar. That's the tactic the DU contingent uses on the President.

I am beginning to believe that God himself could descend from Heaven and confirm that Mitt Romney is indeed pro-life and there would still be people here on FR who would refuse to acknowledge it.

So, how do you explain that the MCFL said of him: “...he was a pro-life Governor. He vetoed a number of pro-abortion pieces of legislation and made many pro-life appointments. He was always there for us.”? Are they not pro-life either?

Every, EVERY Repub candidate this cycle has baggage, be it political, ethical or whatever.

We're toast in '08.

By mid-November 2002, I was already getting 'letters to the editor' published - calling for the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Looks like I'm gonna have to tweak 'em, but I think they're going to need publishing.
