Since Rudy had redefined his abortion stance, it would be interesting to do a poll and see how many on FR still support him...

Your title parenthetical might better read “stick a scissors in him, he’s unwanted.”

Men who say, "Ultimately it's the WOMAN'S choice."

...are the same guys who say, "Whew, that was close!"

..when the woman announces she's gonna abort his child.

I wonder what other "morally wrong" actions he would respect---and just where he draws the line.

I think that not giving sufficient time to one's children is morally wrong, but I wouldn't legislate how much time and what activities a parent must spend and do.

I think that cheating on one's spouse is morally wrong, but I'm not willing to put people in jail for adultery.

I think that repeating gossip is morally wrong, but I'm not willing to put people in jail for repeating gossip.

I think that saying questionable things about a fellow employee at work in order to get a promotion over that fellow employee is morally wrong, but I don't want the government to become an arbiter in office politics.

There are plenty of things that are morally wrong but not things that the government should address. One of the reasons that so many people refuse to vote for conservatives is that they see conservatives as people who don't know how to draw these lines. In the case of abortion, the government should be involved because abortion represents the killing of a little person. That violation of a person's rights is justification for government action and goes far beyond the question of moral rightness or wrongness.

“It’s a matter of morals.”

Yep, it’s called the leftist brain have no way to spin an ethical issue, not a moral one. He forgot that most people while possibly not realizing the difference between the two by sound, will always recognize the difference by heart.

Ethics is recognized without the boundaries of race, religion or territory. Never want to be on the wrong side of an ethical issue.

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani forcefully reaffirmed his support for abortion rights on Friday and argued that his divergence from conservatives on the issue should not disqualify him from being the eventual GOP nominee.

He's absolutely right

It depends on whether or not the GOP chooses to remain the party of pro-life and of conservatives.

I voted for George Bush, a “conservative” coming out of Texas, “Can’t miss” I told myself. Sorry Rudy, I’m still looking for that conservative I thought Bush was, not someone even MORE liberal.

If he gets the nomination I will vote for him without any issues at all.

I actually care about the WoT and take it seriously.

1/2 of the freepers these days are acting like spoiled brats IMO.

Why do you think Giuliani would be a good choice to fight the WoT? He has no foreign policy experience. He denied the terrorist motives of the Islamofascists who attacked on his watch prior to 9/11, and in one case cynically used the attack to call for stricter federal gun control. His definition of “being on the offense” amounts to taking us back to the 90s approach — trying to prevent individual attacks via police tactics, i.e., swatting at flies instead of draining the swamp. It’s not surprising that he would revert to fighting terrorism primarily as a crime — crime-fighting is what he knows. But it’s the wrong direction if we’re to win the WoT.

All other discussion forums suck compared to FR. They all look pretty much the same - avatars, UBB, etc. FR RULES!

BTW is this the new home of former FReepers pushing Rudy? It sure looks that way.

Terrific post. Your list of examples was thoughtful and impressive. It shows, IMHO, a well-developed character.

On so many levels and in too many areas I’m simply not seeing the same in Rudy Giuliani.

Rudy says "We understand how to respect each other's difference," he said. "It's in our DNA."

Well then why are we fighting terrorists, after all it must be in their DNA to seek to destroy US???

Mayor Giuliani is most certainly NOT done.

Mayor Giuliani is a political opportunist of the first order. He’s playing a somewhat risky strategy here, but it’s one that could very well pay off. An infanticide friendly “conservative” would certainly be appealing to the leftmedia who will provide him plenty of free publicity.

Remember that the GOP is largely a political party for merchants. Much of the GOP is not interested in social conservatism: they’re interested in protecting business interests. What influence the Christian right has had on the GOP is a recent phenomenon of the last 30 years or so. I think traditional conservatives ascribe much more influence to the Christian right and traditional conservatism than actually exists within the GOP.

Mayor Giuliani could end up being the GOP nominee outright or as the second place finisher, he could simply decide to run on some sort of “unity” ticket with the Democrats.
