WATSONVILLE Less than 24 hours after the California Department of Health Services issued a warning for consumers to beware of lead-contaminated Mexican candy, a Santa Cruz County health inspector Thursday found buckets of the candy inside a small store in Watsonville.
John Hodges told the owner, Gil Garcia of Productos Diana, to remove the candy from the shelves until tests are conducted by the state to see how much lead is in it if any.
The owner of the store, located in the back of the Watsonville Discount Mall at Beach and Rodriguez streets, immediately complied, saying he wasn't aware of the latest recall. He said he bought the candy from a warehouse in Los Angeles a little over a month ago and wasn't sure how much he has sold since.

I hope to God I'm never hungry enough to actually eat a grasshopper -- on purpose.
I'm stocking up now, sealing them (Hershey Bars) and putting them in the freezer. One day I'll have to ration them, that will be the hard part. How can Hershey's do this to us?.
Thanks! That is an excellent idea! Now I have an excuse to buy them in bulk. LOL.
I hate that they’re doing this. It was bad enough when they reduced the Reese’s Cup down to about the size of a poker chip. I could fix that by eating 2. OK 3. But now there are other issues. Thanks again for the idea.
Ah, the best candy in the world, like Blue Bell Ice cream from Texas.
So what exactly WAS that UN plot to bring the worlds population down to 500 million?
Not to be knee-jerking but, there something terribly wrong (evil) going on.
Sees is nice, if you can get it...
“See’s is headquartered in South San Francisco, California with kitchens located in both Los Angeles and South San Francisco delivering fresh chocolates and candies to over 200 See’s shops in the West where See’s Candies are a “Happy Habit®”.”
FYI: Jelly Belly is made in California USA as well. And the tour of the factory is so much fun! Bring the kids!
A grocer who can’t keep abreast of food recalls and contamination issues has no business getting your hard-earned food dollar.
Luv your tag line by the way. Heh!

And I Yours...;0)
That is insane! I hope you told them!
I'd never heard of it before. It looks really good.
I make it a point not to buy ANYTHING from Mexico - including those cervezas with the lime - going back to the Vincente Fox administration.
Yep,,,for all the good it did,,,too late to call anybody,,,
We just have to look for ourselves,,,
LOl! Oh, you are so naughty!
I just discovered a new, insanely good peanut butter cup. Trader Joe's. Hoo!
You are right, the FDA sure isn’t looking out for us.
I think the FDA has gone into “Full-Damage-Control” mode
at this time,,,add the CDC to that...

You have to try the Reese’s BIG CUP! They are about an inch thick. I get a pkg of 8 at WalMart for about $2.50.
