"According to statements from the university and other sources, Frawley was driving the car provided to the university president when he was involved in a wreck in Northern Virginia on April 10 and was badly hurt. The car was totaled....

Later that afternoon (April 11), a driver near Fredericksburg called police to say a man in a car in front of her was driving recklessly. The driver did not stop when police turned on flashing lights but continued until he pulled into the driveway of the university president's house."

He obviously didn't listen to Dean Wormer: "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

BTW: Why was this under the radar?

Drunken faculty is just one of the problems.

Wasn’t she speeding to MIT to take over the Registrar’s job (fired for SOP-liberal resume fraud)?

Binge drinkers tend to go out with a big bang like this clown. Maintenance drinkers always have better driving records.

“He came to Mary Washington from George Washington University, where he was dean of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.”

What did they know and when did they know it?

GWU. Say no more. That’s three-martini heaven around lunchtime. I don’t have a clue how I graduated from there.

This story puts me in mind of the superintendent of schools in Alexandria, Virginia.

She was arrested a few years ago for drunk driving.

Not only did the school board vote nearly unanimously to keep her on the job, but they gave her a raise!

Now that sends a superb signal to children in our school system, doesn’t it?

Memo to Alexandria Schools: A College Shows How to Deal with Drunken Leaders
“This is called “doing the right thing.” It is a concept that never quite got through to the Alexandria school board, which in 2004 decided that a DUI charge against its superintendent, Rebecca Perry, was occasion to extend her contract, give her some paid time off, and raise her salary.

Yup. That’s the one, Rebecca Perry. She’s a beaut!

And as a taxpayer in Alexandria, with no kids, I am simply delighted to help pay her bloated salary.

You know, there are 1,107 elementary schools in Virginia. One school that Ms. Perry oversees is ranked 1,104th - at least it was in 2005.

Now that is a real shame. Too bad Ms. Perry gets all that dough, and permits the kids in that school to wallow at the very bottom of the academic ladder.

Yup. She’s a real bargain - so is our school board. Sheesh.

Academic leaders have been driving dead drunk—metaphorically speaking—for decades.

Now if he had just used the word "fag" he would have been sent off to rehab, and this wouldn't have happened.

He went from an institution named for George Washington to one named for George Washington's mother. Is there a college somewhere named for George Washington's grandmother? I don't see what Mary Washington did to merit having a university named for her--there were women who made a real contribution to America during the Revolutionary Era, but apparently she just badgered her son with demands--I've even seen an article which argued she had Tory sympathies.

Ironically the more famous William Frawley, the actor who played Fred Mertz on "I Love Lucy," lost his license because of drunk driving. According to the Wikipedia entry, his on-screen wife Ethel hated him so much that when she heard the news of his death, while she was dining at a restaurant, she called out "Champagne for everybody!"
