Governor warns of 'circus' atmosphere if gay marriage goes to ballot (MA's Guv against democracy)

BOSTON (AP) - Governor Patrick is warning that Massachusetts will be crippled by a "political circus" if a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage makes it to the state ballot.

The Democratic governor says he's actively lobbying legislators who are opposed to same-sex marriage to switch their votes.

Lawmakers yesterday postponed a vote until June 14th at the earliest.

Before it can reach the 2008 ballot, the proposed amendment needs the backing of 50 lawmakers in two successive sittings of the Legislature.

It won approval in the previous Legislature in January, on the final day of its session.

Gay marriage supporters, including Patrick, fear that voters would overturn the landmark law.

Patrick says "very little other business" will get done on Beacon Hill if the amendment makes it to the ballot.

You can't like these liberal Democrats in the Northeastern states, or anywhere for that matter. He just doesn't want the voters to decide. This is one guy I hope never makes it beyond where he is.

Yeah they don’t want people to vote when they know they will lose. The circus is gay marriage.

Now that isn't very democratic of the Democrats.

Letting the voters decide on a fundamental societal issue would cause a political circus?

From what I've read, Patrick's admin is the real circus in Massachusetts.

Well you have to understand that there is a difference between the Enlightened Vanguard of Society and the mere proletariat.

According to the Herald, he’s trying to trade administration jobs for votes:

Go to www.coupedeval.com for more on the governor of MA. Things are not going well in these first few months. Why are the Democrats so afraid of people voting?

In NH, we have a problem in that the state house and senate are now Democrat majorities and we have a Democrat governor. They are pushing through civil unions although no one campaigned on this issue. We’ll have to defeat the gov in 2008 and get majorities back in the house and senate...

Yesterday’s poll at wwlp in MA, must have really thrown them. 78% want the right to vote. It doesn’t bode well for the activists. Plus the people outside the state house who want the vote, outnumbered the homosexuals by 5 to 1. Of course to these pro-homosexuals will claim, in fact have claimed, that to allow the vote is mob rule.

Funny how mob rule is used at their convenience. They never allow it to be used for smoking bans! LOL

The word is out that the Devil Patric is offering jobs to Reps and Senators who voted in favor of placing this on the ballot, in order to lesson the chance that it will be placed on the Ballot.

That what I’m hearing out on the Left Coast...this Patrick is NO Mitt Romney, why let the voters of the state he ‘s supposed to represent decide the issue and lose when he can hide behind a judge and win?

Le moonbat.

If homosexual marriage is such a good policy for society, an election campaign would give them the perfect opportunity to tell everyone why it’s a good idea and why that particular policy should be retained.

I think it’s ironic that the Goodridge lesbian couple who were the lead plantiffs in the lawsuit in Massachusetts have separated.

Mass is the only North Eastern State with Direct Petition. It would be a real heart breaker for the commies and queers, if this went on the ballot and was defeated, deep in the heart of socialist America, a likely scenario.

This whole push for homosexual marriage has backfired in some ways. They have legalized it in Massachusetts, and an election to overturn it may or may not happen. On the other hand, we’re now up to 27 states that have banned same sex marriage by constitutional amendment, rather than by statute law. Those amendments never would have happened without the push by the gay activists to force this through court.

Politically correct activists can cry in their beer, but the fact is that they never tried to make a case for homosexual marriage in the public and political arena. All they tried to do was force it through court.

I just can’t understand all the talk about letting the voters decide - the voters HAVE voted, numerous times, and each time they install left-wing moonbats who foster the homosexual environment. If y’all think the voters who keep electing these socialists are going to suddenly turn 180 and vote against their platform - I don’t know.

I must respectfully disagree with you. While the voters of Massachusetts are extremely displeasing in who they vote for, it would be incorrect to interpret that their support for Democratic politicians implies intrinsic support for gay marriage. It’s wrong what they’ve done, but they should be given a vote on the issue. If they vote to preserve homosexual marriage in their state, then that will be bad. But to let the politicians and the judges be the final word on this is simply wrong.

I must respectfully disagree with you.

I have one rebuttal - Ted Kennedy. (No... two - John Kerry.)
