This is my first experience of these two.

So....people actually listen to this for, like, entertainment?

And these two, I presume, are making big bucks doing this?

Amazing.

But, you know, the wild-eyed, drooling, mouth-breathers among us have to have something to listen to.

Same guys that got banned for holding a contest which included a stunt of having sex in the St. Patrick’s Cathedral and other public places in NYC. Sponsored by Sam Adams and also the president of Sam Adams, Jim Cook was in the studio. I won’t drink that beer to this day.

Folks, you may not like Opie and Anthony. You might hate Imus. You might find Limbaugh to your distaste.

But make no mistake, there is an all-out war on talk radio going on, and bodies are already being spread on the battlefield.

Can you guess who is behind it? Can you guess why? Do you really think there is suddenly a huge national outrage over marginal shows that are only doing what they have always done - silly sex and cultural jokes, satire, parody?

Personally I find those Rush Limbaugh parody songs to be stupid, and ill-thought out. I turn off the show whenever they play them. They breed ignorance.

Au contraire, Paul Shanklin's parodies are hilarious and timely. My perennial favorites are "In a Yugo" (the deadly consequences of being environmentally whacked, inertially inferior and makeing bad life decisions) and "Werewolves in Congress" (classic Clinton scare tactics ala Warren Zevon; Clinton is such an excitable boy). I've not yet heard "Obama the Magic Negro", but if its classic Shanklin, it must be a hoot.

My mother was humorless. She was extremely neurotic, medicated and a yellow dog Democrat. What's your excuse?

If it is an all-out war - count me on the side of decency and common sense. I’m a proud conservative and sick of all the garbage and trash on tv & radio.

*************

No, it's that I think they are disturbed, as is anyone that thinks that rape is funny, or that talking about raping a woman such as Rice is acceptable.

I’m with you. The notion that “We must defend Opie and Anthony because if we don’t, Rush Limbaugh will be taken off the air” is just fatuous.

Yup. It sets up an interesting debate between cultrual conservatives who would like to see this vile of the airwaves versus free speech advocates which includes many conservatives.

I’ve heard them on XM. They’re assholes and they’re not funny besides being deranged.

File this under “why I don’t subscribe to XM”. Or TV, for that matter. The only reason they’re on the air is because there is a certain segment of our society that chooses to wallow in filth.

Amazing, isn’t it? People are so much wanting to show they are for “freedom of speech”, that they forget they have the right to call for people’s heads who’s speech is unacceptable.

And it is unacceptable to joke about raping a woman. There is no civilized way to appropriately joke about holding down a woman and forcibly having sex with her. There is no reason for ANY advertiser in a civilized society to not be punished for paying for such “entertainment”, or any employer for not firing people who condone and laugh at the idea of a woman being raped.

If the government tried to shut it down, I’d fight them tooth and nail. But we better stand up for what is right, government freedom doesn’t work in an uncivilized society.

“I’ve heard them on XM. They’re assholes and they’re not funny besides being deranged.”

The best explanation I’ve heard yet.

What pains me is to hear Hannity, Rush, et al defend “free speech”. At some point, someone has to draw the line, like with that bigotted old fool, Imus.

I’ve heard Lucky on a local talk show (he’s a well-known neighborhood activist here), but didn’t know he had a book out. I’ll have to pick up a copy.
