And did we see any significant reduction in the size and scope of the federal government during that time? Did we see any significant improvement in the social issues during that time?

I’d say the addition to the court of Alito and Roberts was responsible for the partial birth abortion bill being up held. I’m sure whatever judge in the 2nd. district DC who struck down the DC gun ban was a Republican appointee. The tax cuts that brought this economy out of a recession and the worst and costliest attack on American soil on 9-11 were done by a Republican congress. The tools via patriot act ect... were designed by a Republican congress. With their warts and all Republicans are preferable.
