“Oh. So his horror was so profound he couldn’t speak out for seven years, until after he was no longer governor and in a position to do anything?”
I’m not sure that he could do much WHILE he was governor.
Nonetheless, it is a lie to call Ronald Reagan “pro-choice” at this time. He was about as pro-life then as Mr. Romney claims to be right now.
“Romney simply pointed out that Republicans going pro-life catch press flack.”
No argument there.
The argument is with lying about Mr. Reagan and calling him “pro-choice” so that Mr. Romney could soften his own long-held pro-abort record.
Mr. Romney would go a lot further with social conservatives if he just said, “I was a crummy pro-abort. I was wrong. Now I’m pro-life.”
Without trying to have it both ways - “I was personally pro-life but my position was effectively ‘pro-choice.’”
Or lying about others - “Ronald Reagan was ‘pro-choice,’ too.”
I LOVE converts to the cause. But not those who dissemble about their pasts, or about the pasts of others, to make themselves look better.
