No pay, no vote.

In national elections, I believe that is the way it should be. If you pay no taxes or indeed receive support from the government, you should not vote. Exempt the elderly and the infirm, and give an alternative poll tax to allow folks that really want to vote that pay no federal income tax.

Of course, every lib/dem would have a heart attack and die if anyone in the mainstream ever suggested it.
