They included the All Star race so it’s actually 7 races he’s suspended for.

The 100 points is the same as MW received for his illegal fuel deal which to me is a lot more of a rule break than this car that came to the track with a Nascar bracket that was used in the wind tunnel for their informaion. This car that also passed inspection twice and that Tony Jr says would have been slower had they left that bracket on. He thanked Nascar for finding the error. Anyway, it’s done they will never back down and Jr pays the fine for him anyway so all is well. The Championship is probably not in the cards for him this year anyway.

Rumors abound that a Wa Redskins plane picked up Jr from his hanger. Reported by Claire B Lang who usually has good info, but I hestitate to think Gibbs would use that plane when he should probably use his JGR team plane.

Nascar Now just reported that Jr would consider not racing for Budweiser [I’m shocked] If that is the case, he may be leaning in that JGR direction. He really is best friends with Tony and Denny.

That is a real kick to the head. Just what do they think they are accomplishing with a overly severe penalty?

Add stress and the mistakes will increase, Denny.

Mr. Perfect, Have you not wrecked a car due to a personal error? Who footed the bill for replacement?

WOWOW - HARSH, way too harsh of a penalty!! NASCAR is nuts...

It's one thing if the penalty was spelled out, but just damn! Johnson and Waltrip both got caught doing, IMO, much worse, and got a slap on the wrist. Hell, Johnson and Cheatin' Chad Knauss are probably two of the most blatant cheaters around, and I don't think they've gotten anything this harsh. We aren't too far away from the Chase crap, and knocking somebody out of contention for a mistake when teams like Johnson's and Michael Waltrip's have deliberately cheated...

You're talking about NASCAR - the guys who thought it was smart to make a big trip to China to try and drum up Chinese dollars and sponsorships (which they succeeded in doing - I'm sure Joe Nemechek was quite proud to be driving that car).

Yeah, go figure...Jeff Gordon had those wonky shock brackets at Daytona and goes to the back of the line...

Yep. I'm one of the few that thought Gordon, Johnson, Waltrip, etc., all deserved much harsher penalties than they got. To go and put Jr. on the level of Waltrip's illegal fuel or below Gordon or Johnson's crap. is ridiculous, especially when the penalty is not even spelled out, and the dang car passed inspection multiple times.

I wouldn't mind it if I thought Gordon and Johnson and others would get penalties appropriate for their level of cheating.

"I'm sure Joe Nemechek was quite proud to be driving that car). "

He went from the Army to a Chinese sponsor.

Another reason Jr won't go to Ginn.

Mr Perfect [who I think is a great driver] got caught speeding on pitroad several races ago and lost that race for himself. Yes his pitcrew made an error with the lugnuts, but which team hasn’t done that at one time or another?

The biggest laugh at Nascar ever. The wing position created by the “illegal” brackets would have slowed the car down rather than enhance anything to do with racing fast.

Of course if it wasn’t for their stupid idea of handing out wings to everyone at the track the wing would have been attached properly at the shop where Tony Eury could have supervised it. Obviously on Thursday he was at DEI for the big announcement.

Not meaning to beat a dead horse, but this article is interesting...........I like the taking Jr’s jet to Maui.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and DEI will pay a steep price for failing inspection Saturday prior to the Dodge Avenger 500.

Eury’s suspension is immediate, meaning he won’t be available for Saturday’s Nextel All-Star Challenge and the six races that follow. Eury has also been placed on probation until Dec. 31.

“We don’t have a problem with the ruling because it’s clearly stated in the rulebook,” said DEI VP of competition Richie Gilmore. “But we have a problem with the severity of the penalty.”

Gilmore said the team will appeal the penalty to NASCAR on Monday.

“They’re going to set an example out of somebody,” Eury said. “The eight car, people think we get away with more than anybody. I kind of expected it. I expected the worst. I just went into the record books. That’s all I know. I’m the first to screw up on the COT.”

After a little research, Eury said he discovered that the unapproved brackets were previously used during a wind-tunnel test and had not been replaced before the car came to the track. Eury said with the wing lowered to 18-degrees, the car’s downforce was 20 counts less than had it been mounted to specifications.

“They did us a favor by putting on the other brackets,” said Eury, who mailed the wind-tunnel report to Nextel Cup Series director John Darby. “But I understand I don’t have the blue-printed bracket on the car. I made an honest mistake and accept whatever (NASCAR) decides.

“My boys will kick their (butts) one way or the other.”

Earnhardt jumped into the top 12 with an eighth-place finish at Darlington, but the 100-point deduction slides him down to 14th in the standings. The top 12 at the end of 26 races qualify for the Chase.

This is the second time this season NASCAR has handed out penalties of 100 points and $100,000. Michael Waltrip Racing received the same punishment after failing inspection at Daytona in February, but that was accompanied by indefinite suspensions to crew chief David Hyder and VP of competition Bobby Kennedy.

In the classic tradition of covering your buddy’s back, Earnhardt has offered to pay the fine for his cousin Eury if necessary.

“Yeah, but I might have to borrow his plane so I can go to Maui for two weeks,” Eury chuckled.

OK someone send this to Leno........

Idiots at .com can't even get things done right. LOL :-D

And after further inspection the car was.....inspected pre-practice, pre- quals, pre-race. Not caught until the inspection Saturday night before the race. I mean DUH to the inspectors, they should be penalized. If this was such a BIG infraction to warrant 100/100/7 why didn't they send TJ home right away, escort him out like others????

LOL I am really leaning toward RCR and even wonder about Gibbs [which is a good teammate fit] now that he says Bud does not necessarily have to be “ON the car”.

Problem is, it’s so much easier to decorate Infield Parking pages with Budweiser stuff. :)
