Fresno Police say that Jonquel Brooks is responsible for shooting death of one man, and injuring two others. It happened last Monday night, near Fresno State and police spent several hours searching for Brooks in a nearby apartment complex.
But, police do not have their suspect, they do not have the weapon that they believe he used, so they are still considering him armed and dangerous and say they are hot on his trail.
After a nearly 10 hour search and stand-off, Fresno police realized that their 19 year old suspect, Jonquel Brooks, had escaped the University Village Apartments. Police negotiators, arranged for Brooks, criminology major, to turn himself in at 9:00 am. But, that deadline came and went.
Before agreeing to turn himself in, Brooks demanded to speak to his father. Police did manage to bring him to the scene as part of the deal.
Police Chief Dyer says, "We are not just relying on this suspect to turn himself in, because we do not know if that is going to go."
Police say that Brooks shot three people Monday night killing 19 year old Grant Daniels an injuring two others in a confrontation over a video game.
Dyer says, "It's sad to say, but all of this erupted, some type of dispute, over a Playstation."
Residents at the University Village Apartment Complex, mostly students, were evacuated while officers conducted a search of over 400 rooms.
Cedar Avenue has been re-opened after being closed all morning and students are now able to go back in to their apartments after being evacuated late Monday night. Classes at Fresno State have been in session as scheduled all day.
