Have a dog? Plastic (for poop).
Have a cat? Paper (for cat).

Don’t laugh. I’ve seen very vicious arguments between Environmentalist backpackers on whether it’s better to burn or pack out various types of garbage, especially plastics.
The discussions and analysis can go on for sometime.

I shop Aldi’s where bags cost extra and you rent a shopping cart for a quarter. Some people bring their own bags or use empty boxes from the groceries which are shelved warehouse style. Of course what would elitists like NBC know about Aldi’s. The demographics are interesting, there are very poor people who shop there who are trying to save every penny and there are people who are quite well off probably because they are always looking to save money.

I have a similar dilemma almost daily- watch NBC News or bang my head against concrete?

The PC-Greenie solution is to use re-usable canvas bags that you bring from home.
The plastic bags aren’t worth crap by the way and often break shortly after bagging. Many stores double bag them automatically to compensate.
On the other hand, you have some employees that consider each plastic bag “full” after putting 2 items in one so you wind up with 8 little bags to carry (and throw out).
Typically you get better storage in a single paper bag (but even these aren’t of the same quality and you shouldn’t trust the handles on a paper bag).

Maybe he could just have his "personal assistant" make the tough choice and relieve him of the overwhelming burden of deciding.
Life can be so hard when you are privileged, eh?
