Two military officers in Iraq have started an Internet petition asking Congress to support their mission and let them finish the job in Iraq. U.S. News and World Report notes:
Navy Lt. Jason Nichols and Staff Sgt. David Thul from the Minnesota Army National Guard have rolled out an Internet petition to finish the job. Nichols tells us that his colleagues think the war is worth fighting but there wasnt a way for us to express that fact. Then they discovered that they could file a grievance with Congress, which in this case asks them to back the war theyve collected nearly 3,000 signatures and will deliver them to Congress this week. I think were winning the fight in Iraq on the ground, says Nichols, but frets over losing the political battle in Washington. Its the responsibility of the military to prevent that.
The soldiers website, appealforcourage.org, notes:
I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to fully support our mission in Iraq and halt any calls for retreat. I also respectfully urge my political leaders to actively oppose media efforts which embolden my enemy while demoralizing American support at home. The War in Iraq is a necessary and just effort to bring freedom to the Middle East and protect America from further attack.
Our soldiers shouldnt have to petition Congress to support their mission, but sadly thats the case in todays overly-partisan Washington environment. The effort of these soldiers is admirable and courageous.
If you haven't seen this yet: A campaign by active-duty troops asking Congress to drop plans for a withdrawal from Iraq. Lt. Jason Nichols, a 33-year-old naval projects officer who has been in Baghdad since mid-January, said the goal is to keep lawmakers focused on letting the military finish its mission in Iraq, and not prematurely declare failure

The sad thing is that they shouldn't HAVE to do anything like this.
The Cut-and-Run Crowd ought to be ashamed. But they have no shame.
