Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

- J R R Tolkien

Then again, maybe there are five, as opposed to three, seven, nine, or only one, so that whoever the rings belonged to, would have one for each finger?

Find a long-dead king having only one arm, and the search would be over!

Just in case, though, maybe someone should throw 'em in a fire, just to make sure one of 'em doesn't start showing glowing runic script?
