GOP criticizes Pelosi's water project

By ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer 18 minutes ago

Republicans are accusing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) of including a provision in a water redevelopment bill that could benefit property her husband owns in San Francisco.

Aides to the San Francisco Democrat denied any connection, noting that the waterfront improvements were requested by the Port of San Francisco and the four rental properties in question are at least a mile away.

Republicans, who raised the issue more than two weeks after the bill passed the House, offered no evidence of benefit to Paul Pelosi's real estate holdings.

"I don't have any facts to say anything untoward has been done here," said Rep. Jeb Hensarling (news, bio, voting record), R-Texas, chairman of the Republican Study Committee.

"She should explain to the American people what the earmark is all about and convince people there's no financial benefit to her," he said.

John Hart, a spokesman for Sen. Tom Coburn (news, bio, voting record), R-Okla., said that "on its face it appears to be a conflict of interest."

Pelosi's project was part of the $15 billion Water Resources Development Act that passed the House April 19 by 394-25 and pays for hundreds of projects around the country.

Pelosi's measure would authorize $25 million to improve San Francisco port areas, and also would put some areas off limits to navigation so cruise ships could dock.

Her investor husband gets rental income from four buildings in a nearby commercial district.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said that she added the projects to the bill at the request of the Port of San Francisco and that her husband's holdings were not a consideration. It's "speculative at best" that they would benefit, Hammill said.

Ha! So Tokyo Rose Pelosi is pulling a Feinstein! What is it with these San Francisco women? Why do they dare to feed their husbands at the public trough? Above the law? The MSM apparently thinks so. NEVER trust the MSM, and NEVER trust a power mad woman.

Republican house and senate leadership should get on the bandwagon with these kinds of stories. There is enough like RAT corruption and featherbedding to have at least one story a day for a very long time. Drip, drip, drip.

The MSM knows Pelosi is playing politics and enriching her husband albeit indirectly. The only problem is that the bar is set higher for Repubs than dems. If Pelosi was stupid enough to go to Damascus, and to put this benefit in the bill then she’s dumb enough to possibly do something catastrophic to her party at a moments notice. Go Nancy!

Since Pelosi became speaker in January, Republicans have sought to stir controversy over the size of the plane she uses to fly to California, wages paid by a tuna cannery owned by a company headquartered in her district, and her use of C-SPAN footage on her blog.

Those evil Republicans are getting in the way of Democrats using government to enrich themselves. This is why the AP is garbage.

How many seconds into a phone call from the RNC does it take you to start telling them off or going “Bwahahahahah?” My last call (my wife timed it), eleven seconds.

I demand a hearing! I demand suponeas for Nan and her hubby. I want to appoint Newt as Special Prosecutor. I demand it. I am offended.

On "Earth Day," Pelosi made a little speech, in which she said neglecting the needs of the Earth is dishonoring God. Elsewhere on her website, she emphasized the need to act globally and locally to ensure that we all have clean water, clean air, etc.

Interesting that she wants to send thousands of people into a toxic waste site to watch sporting events.
