DISILLUSIONED supporters of President George W Bush are defecting to Barack Obama, the Democratic senator for Illinois, as the White House candidate with the best chance of uniting a divided nation.
Tom Bernstein went to Yale University with Bush and co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team with him. In 2004 he donated the maximum $2,000 to the presidents reelection campaign and gave $50,000 to the Republican National Committee. This year he is switching his support to Obama. He is one of many former Bush admirers who find the Democrat newcomer appealing.
Matthew Dowd, Bushs chief campaign strategist in 2004, announced last month that he was disillusioned with the war in Iraq and the presidents my way or the highway style of leadership the first member of Bushs inner circle to denounce the leaders performance in office.
Although Dowd has yet to endorse a candidate, he said the only one he liked was Obama. I think we should design campaigns that appeal, not to 51% of the people, but bring the country together as a whole, Dowd said.

There were plenty of so-called Republicans who were clearly liberals right here on Free Republic. Stating one is a Republican or a conservative doesn't make it so. Sending money to support a campaign may mean only that one wants to be with the winning team. At this point, those described in the article may simply want to be associated with the team they believe will most likely win. It says nothing about their supposed values or principles.
No real Republican, and certainly no conservative would ever consider "defecting" to the Obama camp. Period.

Your post was enough to give this Bernstein person bona fide moonbat sympathies - I don’t believe the article, either, just more MSM fantasy.

I helped Bill Clinton get in when I voted for a big-winded, third-party nutcase because I didnt like what the GOP was offering that year. Boy, Ill never make THAT mistake again. ************
Everyone makes mistakes. What counts is acknowledging them, and striving to do better in the future.

In what delusional world these people live in to think that Republicans are going to defect to a defeatist who wants to surrender in the war on terror. When asked in the democrats debate what will you do if we know for sure that Al Qaeda attacked to U.S cities, he answered we will find who did it and plan for possible military response!

I pray that either
1) Hillary
or
2) Obama
is the candidate for the DUmmies.
Both are easy to beat so long as Rudy or McCain aren’t the nominees!

I say things will only get much worse for the GOP and the presedential elections if we are still heavily bogged down in Iraq when the fall of 2008 rolls around.
The voters kicked the GOP out of both the House and the Senate in 2006 becuase of Iraq and they will do the same for the Whitehouse in 2008 if large numbers of troops had not started coming home by then.

Since 2002, Bushs political incompetence has been nothing short of breath-taking.Even if one were to agree with you on that, choosing to support Obama only proves that person was never a conservative in the first place. I seriously doubt that anyone who formerly supported Bush would now support Obama (unless that individual has experienced a psychotic break with reality).

I was wondering when they were going to bring out the stories about REPUBLICANS switching to the DEMONRAT party. Doesn’t this fairytale happen every election cycle? They think we’re stupid enough to buy it every time.
