Romney CAN NOT WIN the national election...

this is all nonsense

why FR has such a drumbeat for this guy is beyond me.....

its sad really.....we're destroying our chances so early in the game.....

you may not like Rudy and you may not like McCAin...but both of those are far more electable ....and personally I think Rudy can take it all ( although I wish Fred would actually DO something)....

to think of Rudy as a liberal and not Romney is laughable....

there is a case to be made that Romney is the worse kind of liberal....one that hides behind "conservative" values all the while pushing liberal agenda.....

Look at the cross-tabs of that poll. Romney gets wide support from all factions of the GOP, and the political spectrum. Almost as many moderates as conservatives support him. The idea that he can’t win the national election is laughable.

On another note, with Romney’s obvious strength in NH, Iowa is going to be especially important. If Romney wins Iowa, he will without question win New Hampshire. And candidates simply don’t lose the nomination after winning Iowa AND New Hampshire. It’d require a collapse of monumental proportions.

If you think Romney is more liberal than Rudy then I don’t even know what to say. And to say that McCain and Rudy are more electable is just wrong. No Democrats are going to swing over to those guys and they are going to lose a large part of the Republican base. Mitt can keep the base and win with the red state strategy that got Bush elected twice probably adding Michigan as well. The more people see of Romney the more they like him, except for the mormon haters and the extremely small but very vocal minority of people on here that constantly distort his record using the same dossier that has been debunked 300 times.

Polls mean nothing this far out. Ronald Reagan was 30 points down compared to Jimmy Carter and Bush senior was running around claiming he was more electable since the polls were higher. Vote for the guy you like, ignore the national polls today.

Mitt has been open -- in the past -- about his desire to liberalize the Republican Party from within:

"If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will." -- Mitt Romney, seeking the endorsement of the Log Cabin Republicans

Of course, he doesn't talk like this now.

I don’t know whether Romney can win the general or not. However, he has a much, much better chance than Giuliani does. Giuliani is unelectable.

Romney has only ONE strength. He has a good fundraiser working for him.

Right now Romney is being pushed because the media outlets want that money.
