“Our government is sliding towards what we declared independence from over 200 years ago and those within that government need to STOP and remember what the PURPOSE of government is - and that is TO PRESERVE THE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF THE GOVERNED. PERIOD.”
A frightening thought occurs. Perhaps if this “slide towards tyranny” is going on, and seems to be going on all the time, and all over the world, then it implies that those rights are not “inalienable” but preserved solely by the will of the free. Perhaps the US republic is a blip on an otherwise pretty bleak picture of how Humanity usually rules itself.

Human nature is what it is. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
Are the self evident truths referred to in the Declaration of Independence still self evident today? I think they are.
