Go to Montreal and they'll take your money and treat you like a dog. If you're English Canadian, they'll treat you like a roach.
I got thrown out of a Montreal restaurant in 2001 (while attempting to look at the menu) because I spoke English. The staff made it quite clear they would not serve us because of our “crime”.
Sunday morning before last , I walked into a restaurant 60 miles north of Ottawa , in Quebec. The waitress greeted me with “Bonjour”. I said “Good Morning.” She replied, “Oh , I’m sorry, Good Morning.”
I’ve never had a problem in Quebec , save the road signs are all in French , which can get a bit confusing if one happens upon road construction .
It helps if you smile.
