During last month's debate among Democratic presidential candidates, NBC's Brian Williams asked Hillary Clinton, "How is America a better place because of all these burgeoning hedge funds?"
He was referring to the loosely regulated investment vehicles that frequently generate massive returns for their wealthy investors by using debt to leverage huge bets on movements in the commodity futures market and other financial arenas.
Considering her extraordinary success during 1978 and 1979, when, as a novice trader, she turned a $1,000 investment into a $100,000 profit in the highly risky cattle-futures market, Clinton was the right person to ask.
Today, hedge funds make up a supersized version of the speculative markets where Clinton toiled well before the onset of the 80s "decade of greed." Indeed, her $100K profit, equivalent to nearly $300K today, was four times the salary her husband earned as Arkansas attorney general.
Nevertheless, in May 1993, nearly a year before the public learned of Clinton's success in cattle futures, she self-righteously declared during her commencement address at the UofM: "Throughout the 80s, we heard too much about individual gain, about the ethos of selfishness and greed."
Clinton was right to say that "America is a great place because we have an entrepreneurial economy." Then she added, "One of the other reasons we're a great country is because we've learned over the years how to regulate that so nobody gets an unfair advantage."
This, from the politician whose cattle-futures score was clouded by all sorts of circumstances screaming "unfair advantage." In a market where 75% of participants, experienced and inexperienced alike, generally lose money and where brokers have the ability to allocate winnings among their customers, the WSJ reported that Clinton's commodities broker was disciplined for questionable trading practices before and after executing her extraordinarily profitable trades.

That this woman is not a complete joke to all Americans says all I need to know about 2008, unfortunately.
I saw just a bit ago on the Fox News ticker that Hitlery said another “When I’m President”...this time she is going to ‘flood’ New Orleans Katrina land with lots more money. Does she know a lot of the people haven’t come back so she’s pandering to the wind basically..
What she meant: "we've learned over the years how to regulate that so the nobodies don't get an unfair advantage."
Hillary’s assets . . . large, very large.
I am starting to fear I will have to eat my words.
Does anyone here think (not hope, obviously) she will win in 08?
Her Evilness scares the hell outta me. If Obama can hang on and get the MSM and Hollywood to side with him enough to bring out more of the ugly truth then I’d feel slightly better. But she’s like the bad terminator - regenerating herself over and over. It ain’t gonna be easy.
I used to laugh her off, but I am not laughing now. The MSM are going to work overtime keeping the spotlight ON Obama and HRC, and OFF everyone else, Republican or Democrat. And the Republicans aren’t helping matters. I know some of these guys have rabid fans here, but honestly, America is not getting excited about anyone on the Republican side.
Of course, a lot of us couldn't believe the country would elect a draft dodger president, either...
she is obviously very smart, so smart in fact that she realizes her best strategy is to keep her mouth shut and fool people into thinking she is normal- when in fact she is normal
for a communist.
It really speaks to the level of neediness we've sunk that people take her socialist beliefs and don't recognize them as such. Such sentiments are so popular that most Republicans are afraid to speak against them, and offer Socialist Lite alternatives.
It frightens me when I talk to my students and they seem to think government's job is to give them stuff.
Wonder if this gem is meant as a jab or if the author really believes it.
Considering the source I’d say it’s a jab.
The worst part is that way too many are trained/paid, etc. to go vote “D”, regardless of who is running on a ticket.
Until we return to some kind of ethical system or get a few smart and clear people to give up their professions for 4-8 years we are doomed to politicians at the hands of whatever lobbyists have the most money in their pockets.
Bush
Clinton
Clinton
Bush
Bush
Clinton?
Time to break the pattern!
I think she's probable to win the nomination, but even that is less certain with each passing day. I do not believe she will win the Presidency, though. The negative ads haven't even started yet......and boy, when they do, it will be highly entertaining. There are a lot of people in high places that do not want another Clinton in the Whitehouse....
“Hillarys assets . . . large, very large.”
Remove the ets and get the same results.
I think we shall see a “magic muzzie” and a “Breck Girl” combo. They will have the gay and al qaeda vote covered solidly.
