You know, my son is a US Marine. He plays soccer on a team with other US Marines.

You should be proud. Thank him for his service, but that's not a fair argurment. If your son liked to play Barbie dolls and polish his nails with other US Marines after kicking Taliban butt, would that mean it wasn't girly behavior?

All the guy is saying is that the sport's defensive nature, and the fact the one of the few ways people have found to actually score is to dramatize falls and act hurt to get penalty kicks, makes it easy to poke fun at. Real men don't fake injuries.

Besides, I bet LenS could make short work of your son and his Marine soccer pals with one hand behind his back. Right LenS?

Exactly. Anyone who’s watched the World Cup has certainly seen the lame-o players drop to the ground with the slightest contact and clutch their leg, grimacing with “pain.”

Actually, the fact that you believe soccer to be a “defensive” sport shows a lack of understanding on your part. And yes, I believe it IS a fair argument. Playing Barbie’s and painting nails is a far cry from running up and down a field for 90 minutes. Then again, if they were “playing” with the Barbie’s by using them for target practice, I’d say no that isn’t girly behavior.

Nor is one of the “few” ways to score a goal by “falling down”. Most goals are scored by moving the ball up the field and putting it into the net. But since each goal isn’t worth 7 points and there aren’t beer commercials every 10 minutes most Americans don’t take the time to understand the game.

However, one does get to a free shot on goal when they are fouled, kind of like a basketball player getting a couple of foul shots. As for Len making short work of my son, I have no idea who he is so perhaps he could or couldn’t, that hardly matters. My son’s an American, he proudly serves his country and he loves soccer. He’s loved it since he was 5 years old. He’s built like a brick *ithouse and decidedly NOT “girly”. He also has a black belt in Karate, a sport developed and cultivated in a rather imperialist/socialist nation. I suppose that makes him a “girly man” as well, since it’s NOT an “American” sport either.
