AP Ignored Allegations of McGreevey's Corruption, Focused on Supposed Homophobia
news busters ^ | May 5, 2007 | Lynn Davidson

Yahoo picked up a fluff AP article that distorted Democratic NJ Governor Jim McGreevey’s 2004 resignation. It perpetuated the success of what should have been a politician’s attempt to cover allegations of corruption by using his closeted sexuality to distract an incurious and complicit media.

This puff piece kept alive McGreevey’s pattern of announcing something socially startling to draw attention away from the incredible graft, scandal and alleged sexual harassment that would have otherwise defined his administration.

When threats to McGreevey's reputation arise, he uses his status as a gay man to deflect unwanted attention, and the AP went along with it by reporting this latest “shocker” and omitting his political affiliation while identifying his opponents’ party ...

Jim McGreevey has gone from altar boy to mayor to the nation's first openly gay governor.

From the moment he stood at a podium in 2004 and announced he was a "gay American" who was resigning because of an affair with a male staffer, people wondered what McGreevey's next act would be.

Now we know: He wants to become a preacher and a teacher.

Embroiled in a bitter divorce battle, McGreevey has become an Episcopalian and enrolled in a "discernment" program to help prospective candidates for the priesthood decide if it is their true calling.

And he already has started teaching courses at a New Jersey university on ethics and leadership, which the head of the state's Republican party likened to "Doctor Kevorkian teaching health maintenance."

he sounds perverted for sure. Just the fact that he was skulking around rest stops on the parkway..a governor no less. And he expected sympathy for having to hide his secret life..please.

Well, he should fit right in there.

Yeap, he teaches a course at Kean College in NJ.

I guess that college does not recall that he had the taxpayers of NJ pay for two of him family vacations. One to Ireland. He later reimbursed the state when it came out.

If a church lowers it's standards and changes doctrine to meet the views of its members, it is difficult to see the value of that church ...

The buzz is McSleaze is a pariah even among gay groups......his conduct makes them look bad (so they say).

His going for the priesthood is no altrusitic religious experience——he is apparently hoping to out-maneuver his ex on child custody issues.

Plus he can’t get a job anywhere else........the priesthood means a regular salary with benefits.....and the chance to “minister” to young boys.

even that line, “the nation’s first openly gay governor”, is a lie. He was not an openly gay governor, he was way in the old closet until his little declaration/resignation.

when he got caught soliciting a $40,000 bribe . . .
when he got caught putting a man who may very well have been a spy in charge of homeland security . . .
after he promoted a superintendent of state police who couldn't own a gun . . .
who cruised gay bars for quickies while he was the married mayor of Woodbridge . . .

I never miss the opportunity to remind everyone what McGreevey actually did. People are trying too hard to forget.

I edited the wikipedia entry on McSkeevey this morning. Nothing offensive, just the fact that Mark Halper was wearing an F.B.I. wire when McSkeevey passed the code word Machiavelli to solicit the $40,000 bribe. I even sourced it to Newsweek and MSNBC. We'll see how long the revised page lasts.
