I met Owens before he was governor and he came across well. He followed up by mail, answered questions promptly, sent information, etc.

The few times I met him while he was governor, he was trying to do too much...lots of national tv as if he was running for President ( even many sport shows ). I know that the governor job has tons of pressure, but Owens seemed more overwhelmed and less organized than others.

He did great his first years with T-Rex...but then seemed to fade at the end. Maybe his personal problems were overwhelming ?

My disappointment is less on his misses with TABOR than he did not appear to be a good party leader. We can not blame him for all of our misses, but for some at least.

I wish that he could have run for a third term. If he was not term limited, he would have won. Also he could have been our US Senator, had he wanted the job in 2006.

IMHO.

Owens had been talked about as a serious contender for president in ‘08. I am guessing that got derailed after he and his wife were divorced. Plus I know he disappointed some conservatives on a few issues. Too bad he couldn’t have been considered presidential material for this coming election since we need as many good candidates as we can get.

I thought Owens was a good Governor for Colorado.

I'll agree with you there. The entire state GOP was asleep at the wheel starting in 2004. Hopefully they'll get better candidates to run in 2008 and 2010. Bob Schaffer is a good conservative. We need more like him running for office. My new Congressman, Doug Lamborn so far has been just as conservative as Joel Hefley was. Maybe even more. So far so good.

The State Democratic Party is weak. Problem. The state GOP party is even weaker!

If Owens had run for a 3rd term, he’d have finished the job of reducing the state GOP to a permanent minority status. Grossly incompetent RINO. I can’t believe we thought the guy was Presidential material.
