Crash on I-5 in Mission Viejo takes family's three kids (Jorge Miguel Romero)
The Orange County Register ^ | May 4, 2007 | KIMBERLY EDDS

Posted on 05/05/2007 8:34:25 AM PDT by TheDon

Lori Coble beamed as she posed for the camera with her husband and their three small children. Katie was still a baby, perched on Lori's hip. Kyle and Emma – in matching white shirts, jeans and flip-flops – grinned as they crowded on their dad Chris' lap.

"Kyle, Katie and Emma – the crazy monkeys" as the Ladera Ranch family's Web site proclaimed. The kids grew up so fast.

The dream was abruptly shattered about 1:10 p.m. Friday when a big-rig slammed into the back of the family's 2006 Chrysler Town & Country minivan on the southbound Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway north of Oso Parkway.

The three Coble kids were in the back of the minivan, strapped into car seats and booster seats. Lori was driving. Grandmother Cynthia Maestri was in the front passenger seat.

Two-year-old Katie and 5-year-old Kyle were rushed to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. Katie died just before 2 p.m. Four-year-old Emma died minutes later at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills, California Highway Patrol officer Katrina Lundgren said.

....

CHP investigators spent hours questioning the driver, Jorge Miguel Romero, 37, of Apple Valley, who said he saw the traffic backed up, applied the brakes but couldn't stop in time.

Fontana-based leasing company Aurora TRL, which owns the truck, did not return calls for comment.

Maybe you should contact Alberto Gonzales.

Nothing to say, Mr. Jump to Conclusions?

Could you please cite your “statistical fact.”

Hell, half of Orange County is named Jorge these days.

Hell, at least half of those are illegal.

I have no idea if he is an illegal or not. However, if he was illegal the owner of the trucking company he worked for should be charged with three counts of murder.

Location makes it an easy assumption to make.

You mean the location called "Mission Viejo?" The place with roads named "Camino Real" and "Oso Parkway?" The place where folks with Hispanic surnames have live for centuries? That place?

C'mon, when did possibilities become absolutes?

Probably when those concerned about illegal immigration were over run by those that just don't want to live near brown people.

Whatever the story is on this guy.

The freeways are quite a slaughter house and maiming factory.

My friend at works wife was killed by a tow truck operator that did not do his job correctly.

There will always be accidents. But nearly all of them are preventable.

If this guy is illegal that is only part of the problem.

People are not taught how to drive very well. There are some very dangerous and reckless fools out there. DUI is another major problem we do not take seriously enough in this nation.

I went through quite a bit of training to learn to fly.

I think driving should involve more training then it does now and more aggressivly weed out the dangerous folks.

Will say this though — that picture shows the very type of people who are going to be leaving California in droves during the coming decades.

That much is true. It is sad. I'm a 5th generation Californian. I've been gone since '90 and will probably never move back.

The article did not say. Had he been legal with a name like Jorge the article would have said he was legal.

Not necessarily.

if he turns out to be illegal...

What if he isn't? Then what? Who will you blame? Will this be less of a tragedy?

However conservatives here at FR have their own problem if we quickly ASSume that every person here with a spanish name is an illegal from Mexico!

Amen. If we are going to win this battle against ILLEGAL immigration, we can't link arms with racists. I don't want to live in a country with illegals running around. I have NO problem living with legal immigrants and citizens with Hispanic names.

How could he be illegal if he was driving for a trucking company that requires a valid California DL and background checks?
Yeah,he could have falsified documents but we don’t know that yet.

That part of the state has an hispanic heritage going back generations. Hispanic names are very common and have been for years.

Why must the knee-jerk reactors on this board automatically make the assumption that they MUST be illegal every time one of them does something stupid/illegal/ill advised?

If this guy came here legally, I'll eat my hat.

If he was born here, what will you eat?

This crash brings back memories - bad ones.

Ricardo Guzman cannot speak English and does not have the proper training to drive or maintain his truck. During a delivery to Milwaukee, a chunk of metal fell off his trailer, hit and punctured the gas tank in a family van owned by the Rev. Scott Willis and his wife.

The end result was six children incinerated to death, and a governor heading to prison.

If Jorge Miguel Romero is here illegally, who will pay for this family's heartbreaking loss?

That's just a statistical fact.

Oh my, you are the funny one. I'll go against my better judgment and ask for your statistics.

How in the world does someone cope with losing 3 children? I lost one and that was hard enough but 3? Prayers going to the family.

I’m Cali born and raised but if I ever leave my homestate it won’t be because of the Mexicans, legal or otherwise.
It will be because of all the white liberal elites who keep proposing outrageous governmental regulations and taxes, taxes, taxes.
