Federal judge delays Workman execution (Clinton-appointed judge fights death penalty in TN)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A federal judge in Nashville this afternoon delayed the scheduled execution of Philip Workman.

He was scheduled to die by lethal injection early next Wednesday.

U-S District Judge Todd Campbell ruled shortly after Workman's attorneys asked for a delay on grounds they did not have time to file complaints against new execution procedures.

The new guidelines were released Wednesday.

Workman was convicted for the 1981 shooting death of Memphis police Lieutenant Ronald Oliver after a fast food robbery.

He twice has come within hours of execution before the courts stepped in.

Campbell cited the likelihood that Tennessee's new death penalty guidelines could still cause unconstitutional pain and suffering.

Ah yes, another Clintonista fights the cause of justice. Judge Todd Campbell was confirmed in 1995 after being appointed by the worst President in American history.

Can you believe this:

"Campbell cited the likelihood that Tennessee's new death penalty guidelines could still cause unconstitutional pain and suffering."

Unconstitutional pain and suffering??? This is just hogwash. How about the pain that this vile murderer caused? HANG HIM HIGH!

I would think that being within minutes of execution twice would be considered cruel/unusual punishment by our libetard friends
I am pro death penalty. I would point out to each of these scumbags, when their murder victim walks again they can get off death sentence.

No executed prisoner has ever committed another crime.

The death penalty works.

Why should I worry about the pain involved any more than that person worried about the pain of his victim and their family.

Two in the back of the head would be my preferred method.

1981? How many stays of execution did that officer get?

This piece of human sh** will die of old age before being executed.

What a load of crap. The ‘unconstitutional pain and suffering’ is what this Clintonoid pansy of a judge is causing the family of the VICTIM!

Screw this noise about ‘pain and suffering’ to the convicted MURDERER, that is *exactly* the person who SHOULD be experiencing ‘pain and suffering’!

Nice tall tree, short piece o’ rope, and as another poster said, HANG ‘EM HIGH!

I was pointing out the hyprocrisy of the cruel/unusual argument.

I believe that would be major torture to be continually told you were going to die, only to be spared for another day.

Not that I really care, back to my earlier statement.

When their murder victim is alive, they can remain alive.
