Akon can forget about fighting for the right to rep Verizon
michellemalkin.com ^ | 5/4/07 | Michelle Malkin

In a nutshell, Verizon dialed up Akon's people and asked if he'd like to be a spokesperson or a featured artist or whatever on all their cellies. They said they were down. Michelle Malkin got on the case and published Akon's reprehensible lyrics and a video of his crude animal-like assault in Trinidad. We started banging Verizon's media phones line and today they decide Akon was no longer on their A-List.

It's not going to save my kid's generation but eventually these idiots are going to reign in their behavior or else. This isn't morality policing. This isn't telling women to cover their ankles and neck. This is some ill mannered freak jumping on a girl barely 16 and just abusing her like something out of a deranged rape scene. I mean come on. We let this stuff become art and we have noone to blame but ourselves for what happens. Idiot boy at VTU idolized Old Boy. That film was just fawned over at Cannes Degenerated Film Festival. It's not cool and it's not art to do some pointless video on a man bashing people's heads in so he could reunited with his daughter for sex. I mean, come on. With Michelle leading the charge we need to continue forcing corporations to tone it down.

They’re reigning already - that’s the problem.

As a very loyal customer (phone, cell phone, internet, tv), I applaud this move by Verizon.

I’m still happy to be a Cingular customer. For now anyway.

Laura Ingraham also talked about this on yesterday's show. From her site:

'POWER TO THE PEOPLE! Thank you to all of our listeners who phoned Verizon Wireless to let them know how outraged you are by their partnership with freak rapper Akon.'

'Because of your help, Verizon has announced that they are CANCELING THEIR PARTNERSHIP WITH AKON, and we couldn't be happier! Here is the statement from Verizon: "THIS WEEK THE PARTNERSHIP ENDED. WE HAVE MUSIC SERVICES ON OUR CELLPHONE SERVICE AND WERE PROMOTING HIM AS ONE OF THE ARTISTS. THE OTHER PART OF THE SPONSORSHIP WAS THE GWEN STEFANI TOUR OF WHICH HE WAS AN OPENING ACT. WE ARE NO LONGER SPONSORING THE TOUR."

She was definitely excited about this news, as you can see. The caps are hers.

Akon, I discovered has partnered also with the New AT&T -Cingular wireless. Would write it up here but might go to chat so need someone like Michelle Malken to also bring that to a larger audience for consumer activism. Verizon and Cingular the new AT&T.

Cingular wireless customer service #’s are at: http://www.cingular.com/about/contact-us/contact-us.jsp
