Oh, do you mean this part: "Romney made this vow as part of a mormon temple ritual: "You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the Law of Consecration as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants, in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.
"consecrate yourselves, your time, talents and everything you have or will have" (including the power you gain as POTUS) "to the LDS church for the building up of some mythical "Kingdom" and for the establishment of Zion.
That doesn't give you pause? That doesn't have any escape clause in there that I can see. I suppose there might be a question as to just what the "establishment of Zion" might mean today, but it DIDN'T mean the good ol' USA then, and I'm quite certain it doesn't mean the good ol' USA today. Frankly, in spite of the much used lately mantra of JFK=Romney, this particular oath just might cause a voter or three to hesitate pulling the handle for Mitt.
Nope.
the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion
Show me where this oath has caused any Mormon federal officeholder to act contrary to the interests of the United States since Utah became a state.
It doesn't give me pause at all. President Bush put Michael Leavitt (a Mormon) in his cabinet in charge of the biggest allotment of the federal budget. Do you honestly think he's funneling part of those funds to the LDS Church because of an oath he took to consecrate and sacrifice?
Puuleeeeeease!!!!
Watch out all you baby boomers, Mike Leavitt is goign to send your SS checks to Salt Lake....
Nope. Christians dedicate (or should dedicate) all they have, all they are, to the service of the God who saved them. As a Christian, I've done that, so why should it scare me that a Mormon makes a similar pledge.
Mitt hasn't done any weird thing politically so far as I can tell a result of his Mormonism, so no reason to think he suddenly would start doing so if he were elected President.
this particular oath just might cause a voter or three to hesitate pulling the handle for Mitt.
That's up to them. I tend to think that is a stupid reason not to vote for him. Like I said before, his 'flip flops' are reason enough for me.
